White Ribbon campaign calls on everyone to stand together to end male violence against women
Partners in the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead are calling on everyone to stand together against male violence, abuse and harassment towards women, as we mark White Ribbon Day and the International Day for the Elimination of Violence Against Women (Thursday 25th November).
As 16 days of national activism get underway, the Royal Borough, the Dash Charity and other partners are launching a campaign asking everyone in the community, including all men, to make the White Ribbon promise to “never commit, excuse or remain silent about male violence towards women”. The White Ribbon campaign will also raise awareness on social media of the valuable partnership work in the Royal Borough to help keep both women and men safe, the support available to victims, and the several ways people can report and get help if they are scared, threatened, or abused.

Standing in year groups, the entire school joined together to remember the nation’s service men and women who have died in the line of duty. Poems were read by the Head Boy and Girl, before the Last Post was played. Students and staff fell silent for two minutes before the silence was broken by the playing of the Rouse. A wreath of poppies was then laid by two Sixth Form students. As the students returned to lessons, they passed an art installation of a giant poppy, which was created from patchwork squares of material.
After the service, the wreath was moved to the foot of the school’s Tree of Remembrance; an English Oak tree that was donated to the school by Hillier Garden Centre to mark the centenary of the Great War in 2018.

One of The Arts Society's biggest displays of the year is of course Remembrance Day, when they invite schools to participate by submitting their students' artwork - normally selected on a particular theme but this year after the difficulties of the last two years extended to invite diverse displays on topics such as heroism, courage, sacrifice, peace etc. Canvasses were collected, and selected and Year 8 student, Sherlock Ni's inspiring piece of work was selected for display at Ascot station.
Papplewick's Art department is particularly strong with an inspirational team of staff and boys regularly gain Art Scholarships to top Public Schools.
Headmaster, Tom Bunbury said "I am constantly astounded at the standard of art produced within the department and huge congratulations go to Sherlock whose work is now deservedly on display for commuters to appreciate and also all the other boys who produced such moving pieces of work for entry."

A Corporate Plan is an essential component of good governance as it sets out the headline areas where change needs to be driven the most in the next five years, to ensure efforts and resources are directed at the right issues across the borough. At its heart, is the desire to create a sustainable borough of opportunity and innovation.
The Corporate Plan also sets out the council’s approach to achieving these changes and reflects the current situation - recovery from the Covid pandemic, wider changes in the shape of the economy, a growing and ageing population, persistent pockets of deprivation and inequalities, and the high housing costs across the Royal Borough.
Councillor Andrew Johnson, leader of the council, said: “These are challenging times for local government, but our Corporate Plan is designed to crystallise our focus on driving the change we want to see in the borough’s future. It’s based on evidence of the most important challenges we face.
