Dr Choc’s Chocolate Factory has crafted a chocolate bar in celebration of Her Majesty The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee. This extraordinary milk, dark and ruby chocolate bar infused with raspberry, cinnamon and orange is the delicious handiwork of our expert Chocolatier, Juan, who practises his art in the heart of Windsor, only a few feet away from Windsor Castle. This decadent creation was inspired by the pride of Scottish fruit, the raspberry, and the historic spice trade that introduced cinnamon and orange to Europe. While raspberry remains the prominent flavour, a touch of cinnamon enhances the delicate but tangy orange.

Since 2018, Ascot Racecourse has organised an annual art competition for local schools. The winning designs are enlarged and the posters are displayed in the Ascot Heath Tunnel, creating a colourful walkway for both Royal Ascot visitors and local residents.

This year Charters School in Sunningdale is proud to announce that our students have won the 11, 12 and 13/14 age categories and were runners-up in the 11 age category and highly commended in the 12 age category.

Leading flat jockey, Ryan Moore, was asked to pick his favourite piece of artwork, which was this fantastic image of Her Majesty The Queen by Year 7 student Sian.

The winning entries each won cash prizes of £1,000 for the Art department at Charters, and the students will receive Amazon vouchers to spend on themselves. They have been invited to a celebratory tea at the Victoria Cup Raceday on Saturday, 7 May, where they will be presented with their prizes.

Very well done to all those who took part in the competition and congratulations to the winners. We would also like to mention the hard work of Miss Wootten for encouraging the students

Royal Borough thanks public for amazing response to budget consultation as Cabinet amends proposals to include arts funding

The Royal Borough is thanking everyone who took part in the public consultation on the proposed budget for 2022/23, which saw around 1,800 consultation responses submitted by residents, community groups and businesses.

This valuable community feedback has been analysed and helped to inform discussions when the proposed budget was presented to Cabinet yesterday evening, ahead of Full Council meeting on Tuesday 22 February to set the budget.

The consultation ran for eight weeks during December and January, and feedback can be read on the council’s modern.gov.uk portal

Bird flu cases have unfortunately been found locally and to help reduce spread Defra has established a temporary disease control zone covering 3km (1.86 mile) in all directions from the Thames at Eton, where infected swans were recently identified.

A spokesperson for the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead, said: “As a result of cases recently identified in a number of swans on the River Thames at Eton, Defra has implemented a localised bird flu disease control zone as a temporary and precautionary measure to help minimise the spread. The infected birds were also put down by Defra vets.

“The local zone covers a 3km (1.86 mile) radius from the river at Eton and requires all bird keepers, regardless of flock size, to undertake additional biosecurity precautions, over and above those already implemented nationally. The Royal Borough is working closely with Defra and the Animal and Plant Health Agency to implement the controlled zone and notify bird keepers of the zone and associated requirements, which are available here.

“Following advice of the Animal and Plant Health Agency, we will be putting in place, on a precautionary and temporary basis, targeted and proportionate measures focussed around the affected area. Signage will be in place from Monday and we are asking everyone to play their part in helping to minimise spread in order to protect our swans, other waterfowl and commercial poultry flocks.

“From Monday 10th January, people have been required to keep dogs on leads along the eastern and western riverbanks at Windsor and Eton, including adjacent grassy areas such as The Brocas. This gives owners more control over their pets and reduces the risk of dogs getting involved with potentially-infected bird mess on the riverbanks and spreading the infection on their feet.

Sixty per cent of the Royal Borough’s adult population has now had a booster dose. Among the over-50s it’s 85%.

Being triple jabbed won’t stop you from catching the Omicron variant, but it does massively lessen your chances of severe illness and long-term damage, and allow you to recover at home.

Local vaccine centres across the Frimley Health and Care area are beginning to again offer walk-in slots, in addition to booked appointments. Don’t be nervous if you’re visiting for your first or second jab. They’ll be happy to see you.

For more details about individual centres please visit Frimley Health and Care’s vaccination web page.
