The annual outing to 'Rosie’s Chocolate Factory' at Sheeplands Farm, near Wargrave for Year 4 boys from Papplewick School in Ascot was as popular as ever this year.

The trip was part of the ‘Geography of Chocolate’ scheme of work for the Year 4 Geography course. The boys had been learning about the climate required for the growing of cacao beans, and went to see how the beans are transformed into a chocolate bar.

The boys made a chocolate bar and a lollipop (with a choice of white, milk or dark chocolate) and then delighted in decorating them with sweets.

Headmaster Tom Bunbury said "Extraordinarily this geographical trip commands 100 percent attention during the duration of the workshop !"

Local Windsor & Ascot professional dog photographer launches a once in a lifetime opportunity to celebrate the lives of dogs. ASCOT, BERKSHIRE (January 22nd, 2024) – Millers Image Limited, the Ascot and Windsor based professional dog photographers, announced today the launch of “60 at 60: Celebrating the Lives of Dogs”, a fundraising project for a national charity dedicated to saving and improving the lives of children and adults with various challenging medical conditions. Tails of the World is an international group of professional pet photographers, each celebrating the dogs of their region with their own “Tails of . . .” fundraising coffee table book. MIL Pet Photography was selected into the international collaborative and in November 2022, published their first book – “Tails of Windsor & Ascot”. Caitlin J. McColl founded the Tails of the World Collective following the success of her first book, Tails of Melbourne. Her dream was to unite pet photographers across the globe in a mission to raise funds for much needed animal charities with beautiful photography and heart-warming stories. “When Chris formally applied to join the Tails of the World Collective, I was so happy to officially welcome him on board. MIL Pet Photography and Chris’ work is absolutely gorgeous, and Tails of Windsor & Ascot was a beautiful addition to our series,” McColl said. She added “Tails at 60: Celebrating the Lives of Dogs is a truly exciting project, and I can’t wait to see their second book in the Collective published in December 2024.” McColl uses her experience to guide and mentor this international group of professional pet photographers to through the development and publication of the fundraising books. “To date, this Collective has raised over $25,000 for animal charities around the world,” confirmed McColl. “I thank Chris and Sue for their second book project in our mission.” 60 at 60: Celebrating the Lives of Dogs is a fundraising project by Chris & Sue Miller. This project captures the true personality of dogs on location, mostly around Windsor & Ascot in beautiful pet photography. Chris Miller turned 60 in November 2023 and decided to spend the 12 months through to November 2024 not celebrating his life, but instead celebrating the lives of dogs.

Apply now to join the Royal Borough’s new resident parking discount scheme

Motorists living in the Royal Borough can now apply online for their free, virtual parking permits to join the council’s new resident parking discount scheme offering one hour free in six popular car parks.

Residents can apply to get the discount at car parks in Alma Road and Alexandra Gardens in Windsor, Grove Road and West Street in Maidenhead, Horton Road in Datchet, and Meadow Lane in Eton.

Just follow these simple steps to get started:

Firstly, set up a free online account with the RingGo cashless parking system (if you don’t already have one)

  1. Then you can apply for your free virtual permits to get the discounts in the car parks you wish to use. Permit applications can be made via a desktop, laptop, tablet or smartphone.
  2. Once your application has been approved, start using your discounted sessions from Monday 4 April 2022, activated either through the RingGo app or via landline or mobile phone using the automated voice service.

For more information on the scheme and how to apply, visit www.RBWM.gov.uk/parking-discount. Check out our video showing how to apply via this page.

The introduction of the resident parking discount scheme makes the Royal Borough one of the only local authorities in England to offer such a scheme. Free parking will continue to be offered for disabled users and those using electric vehicles. Motorcycles can continue to be parked for free in their designated bays in selected car parks. If motorcyclists park in a normal bay, they will need to pay the usual fee unless they have joined the discount scheme.

You can apply for permits for all six, or just some, of the car parks. A separate application will have to be made for each car park except Maidenhead and Windsor where one application each covers both car parks in each of those areas. Applications for the permits only need to be submitted once and will last for up to two years.

Littering is a costly mistake, Royal Borough warns.....As delegates at the COP26 climate conference continue to debate how best to protect our planet, the Royal Borough has called on all local residents to ensure they always put the environment first and don’t litter.

Two Royal Borough residents were both fined £220, with £150 costs and a £34 victim surcharge each at Reading Magistrates’ Court in September.

Both had dropped cigarette butts, contrary to section 87 of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 and failed to pay the fixed penalty notice issued as a result. The council takes a zero-tolerance approach against all forms of environmental crime, including fly-tipping, dog-fouling and littering, which unfortunately pollutes the environment for everyone.
