Police and Crime Commissioner (PCC), Matthew Barber, is today launching a £100,000 fund to support community groups across the Thames Valley.
The Community Fund is intended to support voluntary and community groups that help to prevent crime and keep communities safe.
Money for the scheme comes from the Police Property Act Fund, which is jointly managed by the PCC and the Chief Constable, and is created from the proceeds from the sale of items seized from criminals that cannot be returned to their rightful owners.
Organisations from across Thames Valley can apply for either a micro grant (under £1,000), or larger grant (over £5,000) for projects that support one of the PCC’s ‘Police and Criminal Justice Plan’ priorities:
Recycling and waste collections will be changing, making weekly collections more sustainable and environmentally friendly to support the council’s Environment and Climate Strategy.
By maintaining and securing the weekly bin collection for recycling and food waste for the future, the Royal Borough remains in just 20% of councils that continue to have a weekly bin collection. As residents are increasingly recycling more and throwing away less, it is important to spend their money wisely and do our bit to reduce our carbon footprint.
From Monday 18th October, waste (black bins) will be collected fortnightly. In addition, the RBWM council will return to a five-day collection, Monday to Friday. These changes mean 71% of residents will see a change to their general waste collection day.
These changes place greater emphasis on recycling household waste, which in turn will reduce the environmental impact and carbon footprint of the borough. Around 50% of household waste in the borough is currently recycled, but the council is calling on residents to help increase this to at least 65%.
This target helps meet the aims in the Environment and Climate Strategy, which includes a commitment to achieving net zero carbon emissions by 2050.

Prizes have been awarded in this year’s Garden in Bloom competition.
There were more than 200 entries into the contest. All entrants received a certificate and the winner and runner-up in each ward also received a rosette. In addition, the winner received a £20 voucher to spend at Braywick Heath Nurseries.
Any garden visible from a footpath or road was eligible for entry and nominations were made by residents, passers-by and by councillors in their own wards. There was just a single category this year and the competition was judged by councillors on a ward-by-ward basis.
Mayor John Story said: “I’m delighted with the enthusiasm shown for this year’s competition. We are all lucky enough to live in a beautiful borough with some lovely gardens and this was a fantastic opportunity to showcase them. Thank you to everyone who entered.

2021 GCSE Results
Charters School is pleased to report some outstanding achievements by its students in their GCSE and BTEC qualifications this summer.
The students have worked incredibly hard during a very uncertain time and gained a fantastic set of results. These results will help them move on to the next stage in their education, with a large number returning to the Sixth Form. We wish all our students the very best for the next stage of their education, whether with us or at a Sixth Form College.

Royal Ascot Tennis Club’s Open Day on 22nd August proved a real smash hit for over 100 members, guests and their families as the popular Club celebrated the official re-opening of the newly refurbished clubhouse.
On a gloriously warm Sunday, the 115-year-old Club, situated in the heart of the community just behind Ascot Fire Station, hosted a spectacular Exhibition and Charity Open Day to mark the completion of an extensive project to revamp their facilities.
In addition, the Club - in partnership with tennis charity Bright Ideas for Tennis - raised around £1000 which will be channelled into initiatives which will help the local community.
The Club worked in tandem with Bright Ideas for Tennis to deliver a packed programme of coaching for juniors and adults, an entertaining Exhibition Match involving top class ex-Davis Cup professionals, and a highly enjoyable BBQ which contributed substantially to the final total raised for charity.
Additionally, the Club was delighted to declare their renovated clubhouse officially open (see photo below), with Trustee Graham Dennis and Club Chairman, Adrian Camp, performing the ribbon-cutting ceremony in front of around 100 chilled-out tennis enthusiasts relaxing on the spacious new sun deck.
Following the successful appeal for donations to support Afghan refugees, the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead is inviting the support of private sector landlords to help provide places for refugees to call home.
The council is participating in the Afghan Relocations and Assistance Policy, providing safe refuge to Afghan staff who supported UK operations and HM Armed Forces in Afghanistan but whose lives are now sadly under serious threat.
The council’s Housing Service is giving private sector landlords the opportunity to play an important role in the response by offering accommodation for refugees. Officers would like to hear from anyone who can make available self-contained housing, of any kind, including for singles, couples and families.

1st South Ascot Scout Group officially opens refurbished Scout Hut
After spending 2020 fundraising and then refurbishing the Scout Hut, 1st South Ascot Hut has been officially opened by Tim Kidd OBE, UK Chief Commissioner for the Scout Association. The opening ceremony was attended by Nigel Bevan, County Commissioner and Steve Richards, District
Commissioner. Tim praised the work of the volunteers involved in fundraising for the refurbishment of the hut which will guarantee that not only the current group of Beavers, Cubs, Scouts & Explorers but future generations can enjoy all that the Scouting movement has to offer in South Ascot. Tim recognised that having a refurbished facility is a wonderful asset to 1st South Ascot Scout Group but it was the volunteers involved in running the Scout Group who were the most important resource. Epitomising this sentiment is Group Scout Leader for 1st South Ascot, Fiona Jones, who was presented with her 10 year length of service award for her contribution to the Scouting movement. Lauren Harrage has been with 1st South Ascot Scout Group since she was in the Beavers and was presented with her 9 year award; she has moved through the sections and is now in the newly formed Explorers Section. The Scout Hut has been fully insulated with new external cladding, the roof is brand new, the floor sanded and varnished, storage areas reconfigured and a new staircase to access the mezzanine level, double glazed windows installed in the kitchen and toilets, heaters installed. The front and back garden have also been landscaped but there is a need for a patio/terrace area so use of the outside space can be maximised. Beavers, Cubs, Scouts & Explorers have all got their thinking caps on to come up with new fundraising activities. The Scout Hut is available for use by other community groups.
