There was an initial planning application for a Health Hub on the same site in 2020. However, a review of the NHS Long Term Plan as well as the impact of COVID-19, concluded that the requirements should be re-assessed and the space reconfigured to take account of changes in the way that GP practices and other health services now operate, including dedicated space for GPs and other professionals to conduct virtual appointments. The opportunity was also taken to appoint new architects and take a fresh approach to the design of the building, resulting in new and exciting plans.

The Sunningdale Health Hub will help deliver the strategic objectives of the wider Ascot Plan, which is to modernise primary and community care for local residents over the coming years and continue to improve on the health outcomes of local people.

The Hub will provide GP services and a range of community specialist services, including physiotherapy, minor procedures, mental health care, specialist nursing clinics and maternity care, as well as space for out of hours community and voluntary groups through the provision of a group room.

Staff and volunteers at Thames Hospice have much to celebrate after receiving an ‘outstanding’ rating from the Care Quality Commission (CQC) – the independent regulator of health and social care services in England – following a recent inspection at the charity’s state-of-the-art facility by Bray Lake.
Under the new CQC inspection regime, hospices are subjected to the same level of scrutiny as hospitals, making this ‘outstanding’ rating incredibly special. The CQC found that Thames Hospice is outstanding in responding to people’s needs, treating families with dignity, kindness and respect and being well-led.
Local residents should be proud and feel very reassured that their hospice is now rated as one of the best in the country. In the last month alone, of 548 health and care establishments that were inspected, only seven were rated outstanding.

The Windsor Platinum Jubilee Committee is delighted to announce the latest news regarding local events in Windsor for The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee celebrations in 2022.
A Jubilee schools’ week will be held in  week commencing 23rd May, where  school children can take part in various activities across the Royal Borough in celebration of the Jubilee. Details to be announced before for the end of the year.
The Jubilee Bank Holiday will begin on Thursday 2nd June in the evening with the lighting of the Windsor beacon, as part of the National lighting event.

 Papplewick's Herpetology Club creator,  Science Teacher, Steve Elkington,  known as Mr Elk, has been nominated in this year's Tatler Schools Awards 2021 in recognition of his extraordinary and unique contribution to the school not only for creating the club 18 years ago when snakes, bearded dragons, geckos, tarantula and other fantastic creatures and creepy crawlies were highly unlikely to be a part of daily life at a British Prep School. 

Steve, a passionate wildlife enthusiast, from South Africa, takes enormous pleasure in educating boys in science lessons where they weigh the creatures, observe how many times they shed their skins and look at how many mice they need to grow.  There are over 100 pupils in the club who buy the snakes and lizards for a small fee and help to feed and look after them as pets during the term time.

In the past the boys have also bred African clawed frogs, oriental fire-bellied toads, Yemen Chameleons, and Madagascan Hissing and Death's Head cockroaches. The club has wowed both boys and some (not all !) parents alike over the years, and the boys can even earn a snake club tie if they are particularly dedicated.

Headmaster, Tom Bunbury said "Steve well deserves this nomination, and whether or not he wins, he is an absolute hero here at Papplewick for his enthusiasm and dedication. Whilst appreciating that these creatures are not everyone's cup of tea Steve's knowledge and love for them has converted many a nervous observer into draping a snake around their neck in no time! I congratulate him for his nomination."

The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead has successfully completed a £30m expansion programme for secondary schools.

The council’s latest phase of investment in new high-quality classrooms, specialist teaching and ancillary spaces is part of ongoing work to ensure there is sufficient capacity to meet projected demand for pupil places in communities where it is needed.

With funding from Government, the council itself and infrastructure contributions from developers, this major funding package for secondary schools followed on from expansion of primary schools, both of which responded to a bulge in pupils flowing through the education system.

Ascot Racecourse today announces its financial results for the 12 months ending 31^st December 2020.  Ascot Authority (Holdings) Limited (AAHL) reported a pre-tax loss of £220,000.

2020 business summary ...

*Turnover was down by 77% due to Covid-19 restrictions with only two racedays being held with crowds and 18 run behind closed doors. Five racedays were lost as a result of the pandemic and one was abandoned due to weather.

 *Without pandemic insurance cover and Government support through the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme and business rates relief, a pre-tax loss of more than £31m would have been suffered.

 *Staff restructuring in 2020 to adjust to pandemic trading conditions.

 *Gross debt at 31^stDecember 2020 was £59.4m (2019: £57.4m gross).

*Standby loan facility of £20m until 2023 arranged through the Government Coronavirus Large Business Interruption Loan (CLBILS) scheme but not drawn down.

 Guy Henderson, Chief Executive Officer at Ascot Racecourse, said:

“2020 was naturally a difficult year with trading conditions and results severely affected by the Covid-19 restrictions. The financial impact was mitigated by cushions such as the Coronavirus Job Retention Scheme, Business Rates Relief and pandemic insurance for racing without crowds, but Ascot’s financial position and ambitions have suffered a setback.

“Ascot had to reduce fixed costs at the end of 2020. Having to lose dedicated and loyal employees, who had contributed to Ascot’s success over recent years, was hard for all concerned. I wish to pay tribute to and thank all our staff for their dedication and commitment in such difficult and uncertain times.

“We also wish to thank all our partners, suppliers, sponsors and various customers for their support.

“Without pandemic insurance this year and with strict limits on crowds at Royal Ascot for the second year, we currently forecast a significant pre-tax loss in 2021. That said, the business is on track to end the year without having to increase debt in 2021. This will provide a solid platform from which to bounce back from the pandemic in 2022 and 2023.

“Prize money and capital investment have inevitably been impacted as a result of the pandemic. We plan to build back on both fronts to pre-Covid levels as prudently and as quickly as practicable from next year. Attracting and rewarding the best quality racing and providing top class facilities are important business priorities.

“Royal Ascot in the Platinum Jubilee year will be a huge celebration and our focus is on delivering a unique event for everyone to enjoy across the globe.”
