Charters School Chefs Reflects the Dimbleby Report Findings

Following the publication of the Government’s National Food Strategy, which was commissioned to break the Junk Food Cycle, we thought we should highlight the mini revolution taking place in the Dining Hall restaurant at Charters School. The food which is available to both staff and students is cooked from scratch by Cucina using locally sourced produce, and since the arrival of a new Executive Head Chef, the menu is becoming even more varied.

Dariusz and his sous chef Ashley, are following the Cucina standard menus, which have a healthy theme that ensure sugar, salt and fats are reduced wherever possible. Their newly planted herb garden means that many of the dishes now benefit from infused olive oils and smoked salts, which mean the pair can pack a flavour punch with reduced quantities!

Charters School Launches Biodiversity Project With Local Charity

Charters School in Sunningdale is pleased to be working with local charity, The Sunninghill Trust, who are sponsoring a biodiversity project that the school’s Science department has created for students in years 7 and 8.

Students will research the biodiversity of the school site and submit proposals for how they could improve it. This project will last until the end of the Summer term, and cover a range of transferable skills. The best projects from each Tutor group will be presented to the cohort, and the Headteacher and the Sunninghill Trust will decide upon a winner.

The charity has agreed to sponsor the winning project so that the school can implement the students’ ideas. The funds may fund a wildflower garden, mini-beast environment or even some hedgehog houses, depending on the winning proposal from the project.

It has been the perfect weather for students to begin their research this week and the school looks forward to bringing you updates as the project progresses.

This year Charters School in Sunningdale is proud to announce that our students have won the 11, 12 and 13/14 age categories and were runners-up in the 11 age category and highly commended in the 12 age category.

Leading flat jockey, Ryan Moore, was asked to pick his favourite piece of artwork, which was this fantastic image of Her Majesty The Queen by Year 7 student Sian.

The winning entries each won cash prizes of £1,000 for the Art department at Charters, and the students will receive Amazon vouchers to spend on themselves. They have been invited to a celebratory tea at the Victoria Cup Raceday on Saturday, 7th May, where they will be presented with their prizes.

Very well done to all those who took part in the competition and congratulations to the winners. Charters is very grateful  to Miss Wootten, for the hard work and for encouraging the students

Since 2018, Ascot Racecourse has organised an annual art competition for local schools. The winning designs are enlarged and the posters are displayed in the Ascot Heath Tunnel, creating a colourful walkway for both Royal Ascot visitors and local residents. In this special Platinum Jubilee year, Ascot Racecourse invited local students to enter the Schools Art Competition for a chance to win funds for their school plus Amazon vouchers for themselves. Winning entries will be displayed in the Ascot Heath Tunnel during Royal Ascot 2022 for guests to view and enjoy during the meeting and beyond.
