There has been a recent rise of prank calls within Thames Valley.

The calls are pre-recorded generated responses giving the impression that recipients are actually speaking directly to someone.

The calls are not all the same. However one of the main scenarios has been described as an angry Scottish man claiming you are stealing his Wi-Fi.

Sometimes there is a mobile phone number showing and other times the number is withheld.

It appears that these calls are predominantly targeting elderly and young people and can cause alarm and distress to the call taker.

We urge people to take the following advice:

‘SHARING THE LOVE’ ON VALENTINE’S DAY | DISTRIBUTING PROFITS FROM THE SUNNINGHILL VICTORIAN STREET FAYRE

On Sunday 20th November last year, the popular Victorian Street Fayre (SEE THE PHOTOS HERE) returned to Sunninghill High Street.  From midday to 4.00pm the High Street was lined with market stalls, selling all sorts of enticing goods, and children’s Fairground rides.  Hot food & drink was plentiful and the High Street retailers were open, offering all their lovely wares and Christmas goodies too.  Father Christmas asked Mother Christmas to help him, as they listened to children’s wishes and the Elves entertained the excited youngsters.  With so much for the whole family to enjoy, it was an afternoon not to be missed.

All profits from the Fayre are distributed to local charities and good causes.  So ‘sharing the love’ on Valentine’s Day, the Parish Council is today delighted to present cheques to:......

Charters School pupil and staff have achieved another excellent set of GCSE results this year despite the national decline in GCSE results.

245 students completed GCSEs.

Overall 78% achieved A*-C grades in English and Mathematics combined; Overall the school ‘Attainment 8’ fine grade was B-. ;Overall the school ‘Progress 8’ score was 0.43 – this was calculated using 2015 national data.

Co-headteachers Richard Pilgrim and Martyn Parker said: We are very pleased with these results as they provide a true reflection of the hard work of both students and staff. Against a backdrop of continual educational change we are delighted that 82.8% of all examination entries gained grades A*-C and 36.5% of entries were graded A*/A. This means that the pupils have given themselves the best opportunity for their future whether they join the sixth form or take up a college course or gain employment with training.

Charters student Connor Jackson said: “I am very pleased with my results and over-achieved, particularly in the Science subjects. The hard work was all worthwhile and I am grateful for the support of my teachers.”

Pictured: Year 7 Boys Learning About the Velodrome at the Olympic Park.

The whole of Year 7 and three teachers from Papplewick School, Ascot, visited the Queen Elizabeth Olympic Park in Stratford, London, on 6th February as part of their geography studies.

The objective was to study the design of a sustainable and eco-friendly residential and facilities project. The boys were certainly not disappointed; they were taken on an informative tour of East Village and the facilities, visited the fascinating biofuel energy centre and saw the velodrome in full use.

They found out many fascinating facts about the Olympic Park, including that the Olympic Stadium is made from old gas pipes; that 95% of the buildings previously on the site were reused; that the timber for the Aquatic Centre was all sustainably sourced; and that all the energy for the stadiums and East Village is provided by the eco-friendly biofuel energy centre.

The boys were also able to experience the facilities for themselves, including hurtling down the Olympic Park Orbit slide and swimming in the 50m Olympic pool.

Headmaster Tom Bunbury said: “The boys returned exhausted, but hopefully fully prepared for an exam question on the regeneration and redevelopment of Stratford and with a good knowledge of what can be done with sustainable development in the future.”
