Sunninghill and Ascot parish Council is seeking the views of residents on the proposed new community building - which could be part of the Ascot High Street redevelopment ( see Ascot Centre Development Brief ).

Proposals for the redevelopment of Ascot High Street include a community building which will be located beside the central piazza.

  • What facilities the building should provide?
  • What activities it should include?

Sunninghill & Ascot Parish Council has already spoken to community groups, students at Charters School, mothers with young children and members of the public who attended the consultation event, held at Ascot Racecourse on 22 May.The responses so far have been positive: Suggestions for activities that could be held in the community building include dance/ exercise classes, performing arts space, parent/toddler groups, social clubs and Rainbow/Brownies/Cubs & Scouts.

SAPC is  looking to create a flexible venue that will serve the needs of as many users as possible. It is currently proposed that the building will include a large hall that can be adapted for a range of different uses, as well as smaller meeting rooms also available for hire. These rooms are likely to be situated on the 1st floor of the new building, with inclusive access.

Together residents have the opportunity to shape the design of these facilities and your perspective will help us determine how the new building might best be adapted for current and future needs. Therefore, we really want to hear your thoughts on the facilities this building should offer.

ROADWORKS WEBSITE

Martins Heron roundabout

Delays on the A 329 London Road - Ascot to Bracknell, will get significantly worse from July 9th, for 8 weeks!

Off-peak works continue on phase 3. Continuing to widen the carriageway and prepare the new footway on the north-east side outside Mercedes. This involves lowering and re-routing a high number of buried utility services (such as gas, electric and water). The kerb line within Longhill Road is also being adjusted to cater for the new layout.

Unfortunately, due to a water leak repair and the majority of the utility lowering work being more complicated and taking longer than expected.

On 9th July the upgrade to the Fernbank Road traffic signals will begin. These traffic signals will be refurbished to incorporate the latest technology and enable the signals to operate more efficiently.

The Fernbank Road junction is subject to an ever increasing demand from a growing town centre, several key traffic generators such as schools, businesses, and extensive housing development. The upgraded signals will allow the council to manage traffic better, especially in busy periods, and to ensure increased efficiency and control of the site. The newer equipment has reduced power consumption and will lower the maintenance burden on the council with more reliable equipment.

Ascot Racecourse is to be broadcast on the new Sky Sports Racing channel when it launches in March next year.

Executives of Ascot Racecourse are quoted below.

Guy Henderson, Chief Executive Officer at Ascot, explained:

"Ultimately, Ascot, as a statutory racing trust, operates to deliver the best racing we can, the best facilities we can and the best on course and off course customer service we can.

"Our strategy is to develop the right mix of collaborations with organisations in the UK and internationally to deliver this.

"Today we announce two exciting new ventures with At The Races. During Royal Ascot we announced Ascot World Pool in partnership with Totesport and the Hong Kong Jockey Club, which sees our media rights arrangements there increased to all five days of the 2019 Royal Meeting. We also announced an extension of our Middle Eastern picture rights deal through RMG, who have done such a good job with the LBO contract and with whom we negotiated the ITV deal which delivers such an outstanding terrestrial broadcast.

"I would like to add our thanks to everyone who has been involved in our period on RUK, and that we look forward to continuing our relationships within the wider RMG organisation as part of our matrix."

Juliet Slot, Chief Commercial Officer at Ascot, commented:

"RUK have done an excellent job for Ascot over four years, just as ATR did in the preceding period. We are very lucky as an industry to be serviced by two excellent specialist racing channels.

On Saturday 30th June, Year 3 boys from Papplewick School, Ascot, took part in a Second World War activity morning.

Each boy dressed up in a WWII outfit, and prizes went to two boys who dressed up as Winston Churchill, another who made himself look like a tank and another as a Battle of Britain pilot.

The boys did various activities such as code breaking, sabotage, singing 'Run Rabbit Run' and learning to identify fighter and bomber aeroplanes. Much fun was had by all, especially the teachers who had to guard some secret documents and take prisoners!

‘THERE BUT NOT THERE’ WILL BE  HERE, FOR VERY SPECIAL REMEMBRANCE YEAR 2018 in SUNNINGHILL & ASCOT

Sunday November 11th 2018 will be a very important date! It will be 100 years since the WW1 guns fell silent!

The long lists of names on the Parish war memorials are testament to a huge local sacrifice. This has prompted  Sunninghill and Ascot Parish Council  to secure a number of fitting memorials for this special anniversary, from the Registered Charity,  ‘Remembered’ . ‘There But Not There’ is the latter’s WW1 centenary Remembrance campaign, Remembered, which is  currently sweeping the country (see distribution map below).

Sunninghill Ascot  :: Remembrance 2018

Remembered is marking the Centenary with three clear aims: To commemorate the fallen, to educate (lest we forget!) and to heal (fundraising for those who are still suffering after defending our country).

In a few weeks time, four poignant, six-foot silhouette ‘Tommies’ (see picture below) supplied by Remembered, will appear at significant Sunninghill & Ascot Parish locations.  The ghostly soldier image weighs just 11kg and is only 6mm thick. It is felt that the hollow outline of  a man embodies the ‘There But Not There’ message. The Tommy even includes a small hole to attach a Poppy for Remembrance Sunday.

The first Tommy will stand beside the newly refurbished Victory Field pavilion – (the biggest project the Parish Council is undertaking this year).   Up in the Field, on the top bank, there will also be a memorial lectern, bearing an explanatory panel about the Field’s origins. It will be next to a very attractive bench. Both bench and lectern are the same thought-provoking, poppy design (pictured below).
