St Peter’s Hospital Maternity Unit has announced the arrival of the quadruplets born at St Peter’s Hospital on Wednesday 11th July 2018.

Three girls and one boy were delivered by caesarean section to Melisa  and Jon.  Mum Melisa and Dad Jon are over the moon and the couple decided to name the babies soon after they were born - the girls were called Evie, Maddison and Cassidy and the boy is Logan.

Dr Sian McDonnel, Consultant Obstetrician and Gynaecologist, who was lead clinician for the birth said; "To be involved in the delivery and antenatal care of the quadruplets was an incredible privilege.  It was the first, and probably the only time, that many people in the delivery room will be involved in such a case - and definitely one that I will remember for the rest of my career.  With at least nine of the neonatal team in theatre with us for delivery, it really showed how our teams work well together.

“We all wish the family the very best for the future."

The Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire - Mr. James Puxley- and his Intern from the T.S Iron Duke, presented Shelley and Jerry - founders and owners of Frog Bikes, with the Queen's Award for Enterprise, for their success in exports over the last three years. Champagne corks were popping themselves in the heat, at a short ceremony in their Silwood offices, on Thursday July 26th. Shelley was presented with a glass trophy and a certificate signed by H.M. The Queen, while a Royal declaration was read out - conferring honours and rights on the Frog. The company who have 25 staff in offices at Silwood and 25 manufacturing the bikes in South Wales,  began 'at the kitchen table' just five years ago!

Frog Bikes is a small British company dedicated to making cycling fun for children. They believe that the lighter the bike, the easier it is for children to learn to ride, and to enjoy it more as they progress. Many kids' bikes on the market weigh nearly as much as the child!

The founders, Jerry and Shelley, are a couple who have 2  children of their own – both keen cyclists. So they know something about what motivates children to get on their bikes! Since the first prototype arrived, the bikes have always been robustly tested by the children and all their friends. Frog is proud to be a family run and owned business. In 2017 they won the FSB & Worldpay family business of the year award for the south-east region.

Stanley Black and Decker gives charity new goods for free, following tool theft ! The community came to Thames Hospice’s rescue when, on 18th July 2018, thieves broke into the charity’s maintenance van - stealing expensive power drills, specialist electrical equipment and hand tools, as well as damaging the vehicle.

The break-in caused significant disruption to the charity’s maintenance team, whose van was taken off the road to be repaired. However, a social media plea for help replacing the stolen tools led to unprecedented acts of kindness from the local community, including leading power tools manufacturer Stanley Black and Decker.

Colleagues from the global organisation’s Slough Head Office saw Thames Hospice’s Facebook post and, that very same day, arrived at the Hospice with new tools and equipment; incredibly, replacing every stolen item and more for free. As well as this, the public has donated nearly £800 to help the Hospice increase its vehicle security in the wake of the mindless attack.

Ascot residents and visitors can enjoy new wooden sculptures in the  open space, Allen's Field in South Ascot, after they were unveiled recently.

The new additions are part of a landscape and sculpture partnership project between the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead and community charity Groundwork South.

Working with ANB Groundcare, Groundwork South’s chartered landscape architect Ruth Shelton designed and project managed the sculpture and path installation. The carvings and landscape features form part of an educational trail that depicts an egg’s journey to become a butterfly through its various life stages.

Bracknell yoga teacher Karen Harvey organised yoga sessions during the summer to raise funds for local Samaritans.  The highlight was a yoga event in September held in Hurst Village Hall, when Karen led about 35 people for 108 Sun Salutations.

Keen mountain biker Karen said ‘We organised the pop-up yoga on sunny Sunday mornings and the Sun Salutations event, because I have been touched personally by suicide and I want to promote the link between physical and mental health in a positive way and raise money for the local Samaritans.’

The final amount of money raised by Karen was £1867, and Nick Tuggey, fundraising volunteer at Samaritans Bracknell, Wokingham and Ascot and district branch said ‘ We are delighted with the success of these events, and would like to say a huge thank you  Karen for her enthusiastic support’.
