The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead has appointed Computerised & Digital Security Systems Ltd (CDS) to deliver its £1.3m CCTV upgrade as part of the council’s commitment to help maintain and improve community safety.

The scheme comprises a state-of-the-art wireless camera system that will see existing cameras upgraded as well as the installation of new and improved positions to offer better coverage across the borough. In total around 200 cameras will be added, upgraded or relocated.

At the heart of the network is a completely refurbished monitoring centre which will give the council’s control room staff, as well as partners in Thames Valley Police, improved facilities to monitor and review footage.

The new system will complement the community safety work undertaken by the council’s team of community wardens and the ongoing project to replace the hostile vehicle mitigation barriers in Windsor town centre with a more sympathetic design.

One of the many clubs at Papplewick School in Ascot is the Bibliomaniacs, where all things bookish are celebrated. On the club’s latest sortie to Eton College, which took place on the afternoon of Tuesday, 30^th October, the boys studied many and varied treasures in the College Library, including the Eton Choir Book and some ingenious modern bindings.

The Bibs' mascot, Caxton, a toy dog, was spotted  'reading' a Caxton (of course), and after their tour the Bibliophiles met four former members of their club who are now King's Scholars at Eton College.

Headmaster Tom Bunbury said: “As one might expect of such refined, cultured and intelligent company, the boys congregated afterwards for milkshakes and hot chocolate. As always we are extremely grateful to Dr Coane and all at Eton.”

James Haskell, the England and British Lions rugby player, former Maidenhead RFC, visited his old school, Papplewick, in Ascot on Wednesday 17^th October. The Old Papplewickian was invited there to mark the official opening of a new building, Willow House.

Completed over the summer this year, Willow House includes an impressive boarding house for final year boarders as well as spacious classrooms for Year 5 boys. The school already boasts a covered pool, large sports hall, floodlit astroturf and 15 acres of land.

Headmaster Tom Bunbury said: “Many thanks to all who were involved in the design and construction of the building which transforms the look and feel of the school, and to James Haskell for his amusing and inspirational speech to the boys.”

A total of 68 players attended this year’s Rotary Club of Ascot Charity Golf Day on Wednesday 19th September, held on behalf of the charity ‘Children with Special Needs Foundation’.  Overall the event raised a significant amount for CWSNF and other Rotary charities.

Whilst the weather proved kind, the windy conditions on the day made life interesting for the golfers. However, this didn’t seem to affect the scores to badly, with the winning team ‘ETEACH 3’ just pipping the two teams of golfers from the Royal Ascot G C by a single point.

The winners of the individual prizes were John Sheen from the ‘Trunkwell’ team, closely followed by Chris Millett (Adsyst), and Marcus Bateman (Savills), along with others who won various prizes for nearest the pin and longest drives.

St. Peter's is delighted to announce that the Venous Thromboembolism (VTE) Prevention Team at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust have been “Commended” for their work at the Anticoagualtion Achievement Awards in the category for “The best work in prevention of hospital acquired thrombosis” held on 10 October 2018.

The awards were hosted by Lyn Brown MP and part of World Thrombosis Day, a global movement to reduce the leading cause of preventable cardiovascular death. The award was presented to the VTE team by Professor Roopen Arya, VTE National Lead and Director of Thrombosis at Kings College Hospital.

In presenting the award, Professor Arya also commented, “This Trust has clearly demonstrated that using innovative and creative methods for information and education sharing highlights VTE prevention in a positive and impactful way.”

The Anticoagulation Achievement Awards recognise outstanding practice in the delivery of anticoagulation services across the UK. The awards are made to teams and individuals across secondary, primary and community services who can demonstrate innovation and excellence in delivering anticoagulation services, resources or individual leadership.

Royal Ascot Golf Club is backing efforts to boost links with other local sports clubs through a series of friendlies across three disciplines.

The latest fixture saw the golf club join forces with Ascot United FC by swapping irons and footballs for bats and stumps to face off against a mixed-ability side at Royal Ascot Cricket Club, who scraped to victory by just three runs.

The community-spirited events are part of Royal Ascot Golf Club’s ambition to cement its status as a go-to social venue locally.

Stephen Nicholson, General Manager at Royal Ascot Golf Club, said: “While naturally disappointed with the result, an enjoyable day was had by all and we extend our congratulations to Royal Ascot CC.

“Participating in these events and interacting with players and supporters from the football and cricket teams underscores the importance we place on the social aspects of our club.

“The friendlies provide us with an opportunity to demonstrate that Royal Ascot Golf Club is a welcoming, inclusive social venue for everyone in the community.

“Whether you’d like to attend a quiz or dance organised by the social committee or enjoy the two bars in our clubhouse and restaurant for a meal or private function, we encourage local people to make use of our fantastic facilities.”

 Sam Knight, Events Manager at Ascot United FC, said: “Participating in these events with our friends from Royal Ascot CC and Royal Ascot golf club only build on what is already a fantastic relationship. It was a closely fought game played in great spirits with RACC taking the honours but as in boxing we’ve got them contractually obliged to a rematch."

Mark Wiggett, Chair of Royal Ascot CC, said: “RACC were delighted to host the first challenge T20 cricket match in glorious late-summer sunshine. A high-quality game ended in the tightest of finishes but the friendly competitiveness made the game so enjoyable. We look forward to this becoming an annual event and strengthening the community relationships between all the clubs."
