If you are in town on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday you may catch a glimpse of Odin and Atlas and their riders PC Patrick Frost and PC Tracey Pool. They will be patrolling  the Long Walk and around Windsor town centre as part of the wider security operation.

PC Frost, who will be riding Atlas, said: “Members of the Mounted Section will be engaging with the public and providing high visibility patrols in Windsor in the run-up to the Royal Wedding. Our role is public reassurance and engagement so if anyone would like to come up to say hello and meet the horses we would encourage them to do so.”

On the day of the wedding they will be joined by four further horses from Thames Valley Police’s Mounted Section and their riders.

PC Frost added: “We are proud to be part of this special event and on the day of the wedding we will be monitoring the crowds and ensuring their safety from our vantage point as part of the wider security operation.

“Please feel free to approach us if you have any concerns that you wish to raise.”

Work is well underway to ensure the occasion is a memorable and joyous one for all involved and the council is working closely with a wide range of partners. To ensure that the day runs smoothly for all and for the comfort and safety of those wishing to attend a number of measures are being put in place, including:

-        Transport – visitors wishing to view the carriage procession are advised to plan their journey early and consider using public transport as parking will be limited to the normal car parks available in the town which will be very busy. If you do choose to travel by car please use junction six of the M4 or junction 13 off to M25 to access Windsor.

-        Crowd control barriers - will be put in place along the route to allow all those who wish to view the procession to do so safely. The barriers will be erected from the early hours of Friday 12 October. Footpaths will remain open during the day but they are expected to be busy.

-        Royal Borough Ambassadors - will be located along the route during the event to help reduce congestion and help ensure the safety of all those watching the procession.

-        Toilets and first aid points - there will be a number of additional toilets located on the Long Walk between the Park Street and Brook Street entrances, as well as first aid points on Peascod Street, Park Street and River Street car park.

-        Road closures - there will be a number of road closures put in place with all roads forming the procession route, which are the same as those that are closed to facilitate the regular guard change. These will be closed to all traffic from 00.01 Friday 12 October. These roads are expected to be re-opened around mid-afternoon, Friday 12 October, once it is considered safe to do so.

-        Parking - will be suspended on the roads forming the procession route and on a number of adjoining roads for the wedding day, further details including exact timings and confirmation of which roads this will affect will be announced closer to the date. Residents affected by this, who display a parking permit, will be able to park at Victoria Street multi-story car park 18.00 on Thursday 11 October until 18.00 on Friday 12 October.

Cllr Phill Bicknell, cabinet member for highways, transport and Windsor, said: “As a Windsorian I am hugely proud we have the opportunity to welcome the royal wedding of Princess Eugenie and Mr Jack Brooksbank to our town.

“Preparations are well underway to make the town look its best and ensure everyone can enjoy this happy occasion. We’re working very closely with a wide range of partners to help make it a safe and joyous occasion.

“As a royal town it is part of who we are to play host to national and international events just like the royal wedding. We know some of the preparations involved may cause short-term disruption and we thank residents and businesses for their patience in the lead up to, during and after the event.

“Our main advice for anyone wishing to join us in Windsor for the royal wedding is to plan ahead: pre-plan and book your transport, think carefully about what to bring with you and most of all, don’t forget to come back and visit Windsor again.

“We hope that the wedding will inspire even more visitors to come and enjoy what Windsor and the rest of the Royal Borough has to offer.”
