A new community listings application with an integrated map facility which will help connect residents with a wide range of events, activities, community groups and venues in the Royal Borough, has been launched.

The map is designed to give our residents a better understanding of the services available across the borough and help them to connect with these services. They can search for information by location, category, and keyword.

It has also been designed to help combat loneliness and bring together older people and their carers who may not be aware of services and events available in the area/borough.

Councillor Stuart Carroll, lead member for adult social care, children services, health and mental health, says: “I am delighted that officers have worked really hard to design a map which will help residents’ access services in their local community.

“There is a wide array of events, activities, community groups and venues which are available for residents to view and access via the map.

A record 250 students from schools across the south east of England gathered at LVS Ascot earlier this month to participate in one of the largest student music competitions in the area, with the independent all-ability school topping the medal table. The LVS Ascot Music Festival, held from Friday 31st January to Sunday 2nd February, saw students from as far away as North Kensington take the opportunity to perform on stage in the school’s professional theatre, watched by over 200 people.

The sixth annual event has grown into an important date in the regional student music calendar, with high level contestants from many schools around Berkshire and beyond testing themselves on the stage and in LVS Ascot’s recital room over three days. LVS Ascot topped the medal table with an incredible 20 gold medals from its Infant & Junior and Senior school participants, up from 15 last year, along with a further 12 silver medals and 7 bronze.

The Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead has been ranked as one of the top performing local authorities for adult social care following independent research by IMPOWER.

The Impower Index, which looks at local authority performance within social care and at cost per head, found that the council is achieving greater outcomes in adult social care from a less than average spend per head than the majority of councils across the country.

The Royal Borough was rated in the top 15 in the Impower Index while Rutland County Council came out top.

Cllr Stuart Carroll, Lead Member Adult Social Care, Children Services, Health and Mental Health, said: “We are delighted to be ranked in the top 15 in this index  that continues to show that we are investing in our vulnerable adults as well as providing life-long support to our residents.

“We are committed to providing outstanding adult social care for our residents and this ranking is testament to that. These results provide evidence of the success of our transformation programme and our ability to deliver.”

New social thanking platform recognising unsung heroes in the public sector launches in Ascot

Can you thank the unsung heroes in your community?

TAP (Thank and Praise), a unique social thanking platform on WhatsApp, enables parents and patients to thank and reward those working in healthcare/NHS and education.

TAP was borne out of sheer frustration. Founders, Phillip and Sandie Curtis, have received outstanding service from the NHS and education authorities for their special needs son, but have always found it difficult to relay their appreciation to the right individuals.

“Our culture often seems driven to look for the worst, to highlight what is wrong, instead of giving thanks and praise for the good that can be found in so many, especially in unsung heroes in education and healthcare”, said Sandie Curtis, Founder and CEO of TAP.

They are not the only people who think this.  Earlier this year, TAP conducted research with over 200 people to understand the social attitude to thanking and some strong trends emerged:

  • 70% of people who identify as being “thankers” do not get the opportunity to say thanks.
  • 86% like the idea of thanking people in the public sector.

Dormy House Sponsors Rugby Teams at Charters School  | The Year 7, 8 and 9 rugby teams at Charters School in Sunningdale has recently received sponsorship from local care home Dormy House. The Sunningdale based care home, which is part of the Caring Homes Group, is keen to build intergenerational links within the local community and sponsoring the kit is just one element of their support for Charters School.

Diane Heyes, Dormy House’s Customer Relations Advisor, is working with some of the school’s Sixth Form students who need work experience as part of their preparations for studying medicine after their A Levels and the organisation also sponsored one of the year groups at the school’s Celebration of Achievement awards last summer.

The donation, which will support the development of grass roots rugby at the school, builds on the donation of rugby posts in September from local company, Leading Outcomes.

Head of PE, Mr Chris Wales said, “A huge thank you to Diane Heyes at Dormy House for the donation of the rugby kits; a very kind gesture which will greatly benefit the development of Rugby here at Charters. Grassroots rugby is thriving at Charters and is becoming a fundamental part of both the curriculum & extra-curricular activities.”
