Last April, Ascot Racecourse organised an art competition for local schools, something it has done on an annual basis since 2018. The winning designs were enlarged and displayed in the Ascot Heath Tunnel, creating a colourful walkway for both Royal Ascot visitors and local residents.

Three students from Charters School - Sian, Clara and Lottie - come first in their age group competition (the 11, 12 and 13/14 age categories) and won £1,000 each for the school to be used within the Art department.

The £3,000 has been spent on a variety of initiatives from which Art and Design students at the Sunningdale-based school have benefitted. Some of the money has been used for students to experience workshops from artists or have trips to develop their creative awareness.

Alistair Little, a local artist, visited the school for a whole day to lead a Portrait Workshop for Year 12 and 13 A-Level Art students.  Oil paints, canvases and brushes were purchased to ensure that the students could fully embrace the day and produce some amazing artwork.

St George’s Ascot starts 2023’s celebrations of 100 years of excellence in girls’ education, with glowing Independent School Inspectorate report.

2023 was always set to be a special year for members of the community at St George’s School, Ascot, as it marks 100 years of excellence in girls’ education, further to the purchase of the school by Miss Anne Loveday in 1923. Prior to this the school had been both a boys prep school and then a finishing school and this was the start of the modern, progressive educational establishment for girls that we know today. The 1920s, following on from World War 1 were a time of enormous change for girls and women both in terms of their status in society, their accessibility to education and work, and the perceived value they brought to the world. St George's was later recognised by the Department for Education in 1927, and thus began the educational journey that we continue to this day.

Charters School Year 13 Presentation Evening: The year group caught up with teachers, family and friends prior to the prize-giving and presentation of examination certificates.   As a cohort their results were excellent and the students should all be extremely proud of what they have achieved.  Ultimately the results are down to their hard work, but hopefully the support from their Tutors and subject teachers also helped them to achieve the best possible outcomes, in what was an incredibly difficult two years throughout the pandemic.

Guest speaker for the event was former student Josh Taylor; he completed his undergraduate degree in Philosophy and Italian at the University of Oxford last summer and is now studying for his Masters.  He spoke eloquently, encouraging students to make the most of every opportunity and to enjoy the uncertainty that change brings.

CLICK HERE to see Sunninghill & Ascot Parish Council Respose to the Revised Planning Application

On December 16th, London Square - developer of has submitted revised plans for land south of Ascot High Street . The site would be accessed of Station Hill, beside the Fire Station. The Society for Ascot and Environs (SPAE) says that several improvements have been made but it still has 'serious concerns' regarding several fundamental aspects of the plan.

The deadline for objections  is only 13th January 2023.   Residents can e-mail  planning@rbmw.gov.uk - QUOTING REF 22/01971 IN THE EMAIL SUBJECT LINE.

Despite   improved proposals for a Community Building, a better market square and some improvements to the design details, SPAE feels that the key concerns have not been adequately addressed. For example, there are still only 124 spaces for 133 homes-  which would still create a density of nearly 50 dwellings per hectare. There would still only be six car park spaces for the commercial units, with none for the shoppers or visitors to the community building.

And the proposal would still see the loss of 46 out of the 115 trees (40%) - most of which are designated high or of moderate quality

Residents, community groups and businesses are invited to take part in a public consultation on the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead’s draft budget proposals, which runs from today (Tuesday 13 December) until Tuesday 24 January.

The proposed budget for 2023/24 will allow the council to set a balanced budget while continuing to provide essential support to our most vulnerable residents and quality services for the whole community.

The current financial climate, of high inflation, interest rates and energy costs, alongside uncertainty around central government funding, ongoing impacts from the pandemic and pressure on reserves, has placed all councils under additional financial pressure.
