The Lexicon BRACKNELL  is delighted to announce a new community art project in Princess Square to recognise that while the last year has been difficult for us all… there will be brighter days ahead!

As spring approaches, the days get brighter and the leaves return to the trees, The Lexicon is encouraging the community to come together to help to grow it’s own special Handprint Tree.

Over the next ten weeks, children, adults and budding artists are being asked to visit http://bit.ly/TheLexiconBrighterDays to download a template for The Lexicon Handprint Tree.  Designs should be created using the colours of the rainbow, helping the tree to grow with gorgeous leaves, as the brighter days approach.

The handprints can be filled with drawings of everything we love, whether that’s a smiley face, a hello, pretty nail art, a favourite food, hobby, message, bright, pretty colours or anything that brings a smile.

Papplewick boys in the middle and lower school took part in a Santa Run around the school grounds on Wednesday 9th December.  Year group bubbles were of course staggered and the boys donned their 'Santa' hats whilst running in aid of Sebastian Action Trust - Sebastian Gates was a local boy who sadly died of cancer aged 9 on Christmas Eve 2003.  Families donated £5 each in support.

Headmaster Tom Bunbury said "The boys ran with vigour in support of this poignant local charity which was formed to fulfill the wish of Sebastian made only two weeks before he died in order to create the UK's only purpose built facility offering respite holidays to very sick children and their families."

A new Government backed scheme aimed at supporting the most vulnerable families with children and individuals will begin operating in the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead in December.

The scheme, which will run from 1st December 2020 to the 31st March 2021 and includes the Easter school holidays, provides more than £200,000 in new funding for the council to build upon the support already provided during the pandemic.

Most of the money will be used to provide vouchers for food to cover the Christmas, half-term and Easter school holidays for those children in the borough who qualify for free school meals.

In addition, the council is making a proportion of this fund available to local foodbanks and other voluntary and community groups to help their efforts to get more support to vulnerable families and individuals in the Royal Borough.

Councillor Stuart Carroll, cabinet member for adult social care, children’s services, health and mental health, said: “This new funding is a welcome boost to support those who need our help the most, and help has never been more needed than it is now.

“The council is the organisation that’s best placed to coordinate local efforts to ensure the appropriate winter support is provided. We will be working with schools, colleges and nurseries, along with charities, voluntary groups and local health and social care practitioners to identify those most in need this winter.
