Help Light up the Royal Borough | Join your neighbours and community by lighting up the Royal Borough when  the Christmas lights for Ascot, Eton, Maidenhead and Windsor are switched on.

The Council will switch on the town’s Christmas lights this weekend and as we can’t do the normal switch on events, residents are being asked to join in and light up the Borough.

Decorate your garden, front window or create a festive display in your home and share your pictures with us by tagging @MyRoyalBorough using the hashtag #LightUpMyRBWM and you could win a £250 prize to shop local in the borough.

To be in with the chance of winning residents should post your pictures between Saturday 21st and Sunday 6th December tagging  @MyRoyalBorough  on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram (or all 3!) and using the #LightUpMyRBWM. The winner will be announced on Friday 11th December.

Since 4^th July, Peter Borg-Neal, Founder and Chairman of 28 strong local pub group, Oakman Inns, which owns The Royal Foresters in Ascot, and his CEO, Dermot King, have provided comfortable yet Covid-safe environments for their guests. With other pub and restaurant operators across the UK, the group is bitterly disappointed that the Government has imposed ‘devasting’ Tier 2 restrictions across 99% of the country, despite the fact that PHE figures show pubs and restaurants are safer environments for socialising than homes. This week, Peter announced on BBC Breakfast that his company has invested over £250,000 in providing new levels of customer safety.

At the Royal Foresters, the team has been busy putting up the Christmas decorations to welcome guests back next Wednesday – under Government guidelines, which thankfully include the reshaping of the 10pm Curfew. Outside, they have also installed a heated Festive FlexiTent on their terrace which will allow guests who are not in the same household to wrap up warm and dine ‘Al Fresco’.

Citizens Advice Bracknell & District and Citizens Advice Maidenhead & Windsor have agreed to merge and become Citizens Advice East Berkshire. Both charities have a long and successful local history; with over 140 years’ experience between them, they serve 7,000 clients and resolve over 35,000 issues every year. Citizens Advice Maidenhead & Windsor was founded in 1939; Bracknell & District in 1961. The merger will complete in April 2021 – a fantastic way to celebrate Bracknell & District’s Diamond Anniversary.

St Peter’s Hospital lights up the Abbey Wing purple for World Prematurity Day

Tuesday 17th November 2020 was World Prematurity Day, a day which aims to raise global awareness of premature birth and highlight the impact that it can have on families. Around one in 13 babies born in the UK will be born prematurely.

St Peter’s Hospital, part of Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, has the only level 3 neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) in Surrey and has the appropriate staff, equipment, skills and experience to provide this highest level of intensive care for the smallest and sickest newborn babies. Last year, 650 babies and their families were cared for on the unit.

The Little Roo Neonatal Fund is the charity for the NICU at St Peter’s Hospital and is part of the Ashford and St Peter’s Hospital Charitable Trust. Little Roo helps raise money to fund the equipment, skills and experience necessary to provide care for the babies that are born before 32 weeks or those that are seriously ill. 

Little Roo Neonatal Fund raises money through events, such as the recent Little Roo Paddle Crew Challenge, where staff and friends of St Peter’s NICU kayak 50 miles down the River Thames – from Oxfordshire to Chertsey.
