Sunninghill & Ascot Parish Council is urging local residents who have historically used the land off Coombe Lane for walking and recreation, to contact us with evidence of use dating back at least 12 years.

Councillors are very aware of how deeply concerned many local residents feel about the situation at Coombe Lane woods and are using every available avenue  to lawfully object to various activities taking place.
The matter will be placed on the next Parish Council meeting agenda so that we can receive a report from RBWM, advising us on the next steps and options available. In the meantime, we are assisting RBWM in collating data from local residents who can confirm that they have walked in the woodland for more than 12 years.
Please email enquiries@s-a-pc.com with any evidence you may have, as this will enable us to prove that a Public Right of Way has existed through the land for several decades.

Record-Breaking Year for Charters School Students Studying Medicine & Veterinary ScienceCharters School in Sunningdale is extremely proud to report that all of its Year 13 students who applied for university have received offers, including six for Oxbridge and a number who have been offered places to study Medicine or Veterinary Science after their A Levels this summer.

It has been a tough year with 20% more applicants nationally applying for Medicine/Veterinary courses and fewer offers being given out. Despite this, the school achieved a record breaking twelve offers, beating the previous record of eight.

Four students have gained places at universities to study Veterinary Science while eight have gained places for Medicine; including an offer for a student to study Medicine at Lady Margaret Hall, Oxford.

The school has a thriving Potential High Achievers programme which identifies students and provides extensive extra-curricular opportunities including masterclasses, workshops and university visits.

Mrs Emma Rivers, who has mentored the Medicine/Veterinary students during their time in the Sixth Form said, “The 12 students who have been offered places for the autumn should be very proud of themselves.  Both Medicine and Veterinary Science applications require students to reflect upon work experience or volunteering placements and Covid-19 restrictions have meant that this has been difficult for students to organise this year. Our students have been extremely tenacious and have found innovative ways to help in their local community; from taking an interest in vulnerable neighbours to helping to walk dogs of those shielding during lockdown. They really are a superb group of young adults and we wish them well for their examinations.”

Cookery and Food Technology is an incredibly popular part of the curriculum at St George’s School,  Ascot. The development of a new bespoke cookery room has, therefore, long been planned to grow on the success and continuing demand for food education and cookery skills provided under the auspices of a Leith's approved cookery programme.

Last term’s period of enforced quiet at St George’s provided the ideal opportunity to get to work! An existing large classroom has been redeveloped to create an exciting, modern space with seven cooking stations and capacity for fourteen pupils to work. There is, in addition, a teacher's work station where pupils will be able to watch demonstrations, supported by televisions and overhead cameras to ensure the girls can observe technique in detail. The school has consciously chosen to use eco-friendly induction hobs within the design of each station both to minimise energy usage and also allow for the use of renewable energy in keeping with St George’s commitment to sustainability and the environment. In terms of aesthetics, St George’s colours have been applied throughout and pupils will see grey cabinets with a splash of red for a very contemporary feel!

The development of this new space has also enabled the School to repurpose the former Cookery room for much needed domestic staff changing rooms and toilets. This will be a welcome addition for our Support Staff behind the scenes, significantly improving their working conditions and alleviating a number of identified 'pinch points' particularly in the context of Covid safety.
During lockdown, many from across the St George’s community have gathered each Friday evening, under the expert tutelage of Mrs Jones, our Leith's trained teacher, to cook supper together online. The huge popularity of ‘Friday Feasts’ showcases the tangible way in which Cookery, as a skill, builds and strengthens community, facilitating that sense of connection with one another that is central to the St George’s ethos. Girls, staff and families alike, are thrilled that the new Cookery and Food Technology Room is ready for action at the start of this Summer Term.
