PAPPLEWICK BOYS SUCCEED ONCE AGAIN IN SCHOLARSHIPS INCLUDING TWO KING'S SCHOLARSHIPS TO ETON COLLEGE

Despite a very 'unusual' year to say the least, the various trials and tribulations did not affect Papplewick boys' success in gaining scholarships to their chosen Senior Schools this term.  Enormous congratulations go to Jamie Pike and Andrew Zhang who have both won King’s Scholarships to Eton College, to Anthony Kim who has won an Academic Exhibition to Winchester College, to Viren Bhaika and John Ye who have both won Art Scholarships to Harrow School, and also to Seva Pospelov who has won an Art Scholarship to Tonbridge School.

Headmaster Tom Bunbury said, "It has felt wonderfully normal to be celebrating some scholarships once again here at Papplewick. We are hugely proud of the high standards that our boys reach"

It is now seeing record numbers of requests for its service and urgently needs to recruit more volunteer drivers to help meet the demand. In fact, AVB is currently unable to take on new clients due to the driver shortfall.

The students have been working alongside Lara Carr, a postgraduate research student from Royal Holloway University of London, to conduct research into the processes by which an organism senses, interprets, integrates, and regulates signals from within itself. In a series of tutorials, the students explored interoceptive and emotion models and the role of the brain in these processes. Their PhD tutor explained the interaction between interoception and emotion processing and encouraged the students to examine the differences in processing of those with clinical disorders. The programme culminated in each student completing an independently researched essay which was graded against university marking criteria.

The students graduated from the Scholars Programme on 6th May and were presented with certificates my the Headteacher, Mr John Fletcher.

Miss Beth Lawson, Head of Biology at Charters School said, “Every student has shown impressive dedication, curiosity and enthusiasm. Their work was highly praised and recognised as exceptional by course leader Lara Carr. All twelve participants have been a credit to their school and should be very proud of their achievements.”

APPROVAL GRANTED FOR LUXURY HOMES NEAR ASCOT RACECOURSE | Approval has been granted for a luxury courtyard development on an historic site near Ascot Racecourse following a successful application from specialist urban planning consultancy, Hybrid Planning & Development.

Situated within the Green Belt, the approved development will see the creation of four single storey family homes at Silwood Park Nurseries by developer, Thornbury Group.

“Silwood Park Nurseries is an extremely sensitive site. It is not only located within the Green Belt, but also contains a Grade II listed walled garden dating back to 1817,” explains Hybrid’s senior planner, Aaron Henecke. “Understanding the complexities for a development of this nature, we encouraged early and widespread stakeholder engagement. This involved a successful pre-application process to identify footprint/volume parameters, heritage constraints, design approach and best use of the site in line with the NPPF, as well as an online consultation event to engage local residents during the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Working closely with the client, Ackroyd Lowrie architects and specialist transport and heritage consultants, we’ve been able to bring forward an exciting new development which was approved via delegated powers with no objections,” concluded Aaron.

Ascot Racecourse is delighted to announce that the three principal single Service Armed Forces charities, comprising the Royal Navy and Royal Marines Charity, ABF The Soldiers’ Charity and the RAF Benevolent Fund, will be the official nominated charity partners for Royal Ascot 2021.

The charities have traditionally been supported and promoted on the Friday of Royal Ascot, with more than £20,000 normally raised from bucket collections alone on the day.

This year they will have an extended presence across the five days of the Royal Meeting to help them raise much needed funds which have been impacted as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic.

Ascot Racecourse will work in partnership with the Armed Forces charities to raise awareness of their work by promoting the personal stories of their servicemen and women through digital content, on-course activations and in the Royal Ascot racecard.

As in previous years, Ascot Racecourse will be making a donation from the sale of certain food and beverage in addition to a donation of 1% of sales by our concessionaires on the Friday of Royal Ascot.
