Nasser Hussain OBE, former England Cricket Captain and current Sky Sports presenter was the guest speaker at the second Headmisstress’ Lecture of the year at St George’s School in Ascot.
Speaking to an audience of girls, staff, parents and grandparents as well as pupils from local prep schools Papplewick and St John’s Beaumont, Mr Hussain enthralled young and old with stories of growing up with cricket, his professional career and life after retirement.  He had clear messages about sacrifice and how hard you have to work to represent your country and gave a real insight to the challenges and fun had on tour around the world.
After speaking, Mr Hussain graciously accepted questions for over an hour, after which, he joined the audience in the Theatre Foyer for a reception where he signed autographs and had photographs taken.

Headmistress, Mrs Rachel Owens commented “Some people may find it unusual for a former England Cricket Captain to address an audience at a girls’ school but we were delighted to welcome Nasser Hussain to St George’s.  The girls have heard first-hand what you need to do to get to the top of your chosen career and I am sure that message will stay with them now and in the future.  Mr Hussain is an excellent speaker and certainly inspired the girls with his story. The purpose of the Headmistress’ Lectures are to extend the breadth and depth of the girls’ knowledge out of the classroom in an exciting way and Mr Hussain fitted the brief perfectly.”
Notes:
Nasser was born in Madras, India, before moving, aged 7, to Essex.  Part of a cricket loving family, he joined Essex County cricket club, where aged 8 he was selected to play for the U11 team. He made his Test debut in 1990 and went on to captain England in 45 test matches from 1999 -2003.
When he took over, English cricket was at a low point, yet within the year they had beaten the West Indies, Pakistan and Sri Lanka, marking him out as one of the most successful captains of the modern era. Nasser attended Durham University and has been described as the ‘most articulate English cricket captain’.
Following his retirement from first class cricket, Nasser has had a successful career coaching, commentating for Sky sports, and even playing himself in a Bollywood movie!
