The sporting prowess at Charters School has always been evident, so the Sunningdale-based school were delighted to hear that in a recent survey by School Sports magazine, they featured in the top 5% of schools for the first time. The survey reviewed school sports in all secondary schools across the country, both state and private, and Charters School ranked 196.

The results showed that:  "Reaching the top 30 puts you in the top 1% of the country's state or independent sporting schools, the top 100 puts you in the top 3% while the top 200 puts you in the top 5%. Schools usually have to reach the later stages of at least two, three or four national competitions to make the list.”

Both the impressive range of sport and talented students at Charters School places it in the top 5% of all schools for sport.

The school’s sporting heritage stems from the school’s days as a specialist Sport & Science School and continues today.  They have already had many sporting successes during the last twelve months including the U15 Boys Football team reaching the quarter Finals of the National Cup and the U19 Boys Football winning the County Cup last spring.  Their U19 Basketball Team were crowned County Champions and in Cross Country, the Junior Boys team reached the Regional Finals in October.

Female students at the school fair equally well in the sporting arena and have also had related successes, for example students Molly and Millie passed their Intro into Officiating exams for Netball.

Many students compete in sport outside of school and reach outstanding levels of achievement, such as Matilde who has represented England at golf, Demi who represented England in British Dressage and Denis who joined Oxford United FC this season as a scholar..

Students have gone on to represent Great Britain at several Olympic and Paralympic Games, and there is even a gold postbox in Sunningdale representing alumna Sophie Christiansen's three gold medals that she won at the 2012 London Paralympics.

Headteacher, Mr Fletcher, praised both the staff and students saying, “well done to the PE department and all the young people who take part in the sports clubs and teams that we run in school.  The sheer volume of extra-curricular sport on offer allows students to try a range of activities and discover a sport that they can be passionate about. ”
