The May Day Fair Committee is looking for someone to coordinate the event and someone to do the announcing on the day; if you are able to help please email mayday@winkfieldrowfair.org or call 07713 348913.

Pictured above is The opening of the fair was a joint effort by past and present committee members who between them have been involved for over 132 years!: Nina and Fred Preston, two of the original founders, Jo and Brian Woodage, Angela Michie and Janey Bethune-Williams and Wendy and Terry French, co-ordinator and announcer, who stood down this year. The Committee, which made a leaving presentation to organisers, Wendy and Terry French (pictured at the back of the group), who  helped at, and then organised, the event for 20 years. The committee said that their contribution had been huge and they can't thank Wendy and Terry enough. Wendy said that she was sad to be leaving but it was satisfying to be seeing out the 25th fete!

On the right hand side of the photograph are Mr and Mrs Nina and Fred Preston who, along with Mrs Daphne and  Mr. Bernard Norgate - all of the nearby Winkfield Row Methodist Church, thought of the idea  of  having a Mayday Fair.  The first 2 fetes were in a field, owned by the Chapel, next to Row Farm . After that, the Fete  moved to the Locks Ride Playing Fields  and it’s grown each year.

This year's fete was again, a superb community event, in unusually searing temperatures. Highlights were maypole dancing by children from Winkfield St.Mary's School and lovely singing by the fairly new Ascot Community Choir - pictured below (which meets at 10am on Thursday mornings in All Souls Church South Ascot; new members welcome).

There was a large variety of stalls including plants, home-baking, beauty products, jewellery, toys , children’s games, face-painting, Basil & Crew pet corner (lambs and ducklings pictured below) , fairground rides, entertainment, Pimm’s, BBQ & other refreshments. Raffle with great prizes including garden vouchers,

SEBEV, as usual, provided  marshalling and first aid.

Organisers would like to thank all those who helped and donated superb raffle prizes - such as meals at the White Hart and £30 Oaktree gardening vouchers, a 4 Ball Golf at Mill Ride, restaurant vouchers, activities & entertainment. All surplus proceeds will help fund a Guide Dog for the Blind.

As a non-profit making event surplus proceeds are given to a local charity and this year Guide Dogs was chosen and organisers hope be in a position to donate a minimum of £1500. It is a non-profit making event and so all surplus proceeds will be going to Guide Dogs. The public were invited to choose a name from a list of three for a new guide dog puppy and the name chosen was Winnie. The May Day Fair Committee members are looking for someone to coordinate the event and someone to do the announcing on the day; if you are able to help please email mayday@winkfieldrowfair.org or call 07713 348913.
