New! Blacknest Forest School will be running a Mini Ecologist course --for 4 Saturdays in September starting 12th Sept ember –3rd October , from 9.30am to 1pm.
The aim is to deepen awareness of our eco systems, what bugs, bees and mammals are in trouble and what we can do about it. We need to train up eco-warriors to look after (conserve) the natural world and to discover how they can help our endangered eco-system. We hope children will go home full of ideas for bird boxes, bug hotels, bee-friendly planting. There will be time for climbing, skill-building, fire-making and innovative play that they enjoy at Forest School.

Suitable for children 5-9 years (younger only by arrangement). We encourage children to attend all four Saturdays to develop skills of an Eco warrior. £27.00 per session or £100 for all four booked at one time.  Go to www.blacknesthouse.com/events  or contact Anne Martin 07739199900

Half-term dates 26th – 30th October now open for booking online.

Blacknest offers a unique learning environment for children. In the large, beautiful grounds of our private woodland there is a wealth of fauna and flora, which, with help from trained leaders, will encourage children to gain an understanding of woodland habitats and eco systems by observing and recording what they see. Forest school sessions are most effective when programmes are readily adapted to the inclinations and ages of the children. The child is always at the centre of activities and in a safe, well supervised context children learn to use tools, innovate while playing games and assess risk when climbing trees; but always within clearly defined boundaries of acceptable behaviour.
In this environment they may, at their own pace, develop communication skills, social skills, self-esteem, self-motivation and confidence which they can take with them into the wider  environment.
Anticipated age range is 4-8 years (older may be possible by arrangement) and group sizes will be restricted to a maximum of 10 participants.
Parents will leave their children in the professional care of our trained Forest School team BUT they must ensure that young participants have a supply of their favourite drink (we provide water) & are appropriately clothed for prevailing weather. However, exceptional circumstances may mean that some sessions are held in the Log Cabin .

The Royal School 175th Anniversary Victorian Summer Fayre was held on Saturday 29th June 2019, in Windsor Park.  Half of all the funds raised from the Fayre will go to Team Malawi to help build classrooms and allow access to education for children in Malawi.

Royal School Headmistress, Mrs Coombridge,   writes:  "In the last week of June 2019, The Royal School  celebrated 175 years since the building of the school!

It was 176 years ago that HRH Queen Victoria at the request of HRH Prince Albert decided that the children of the families in The Great Park, Windsor, should have access to quality education.  Over the next two years,The Royal Schools (one room for boys and one room for girls) was built.  The Royal School opened 37 years before free primary education was available for all children in England.

Today The Royal School is a voluntary aided school catering for the local community.  It makes great use of it’s fantastic setting within The Great Park.

The Royal School community have decided as part of the celebrations they will  make a difference to children who don’t have the easy access to education, consequently we are raising funds throughout our celebration to build classrooms in a school in Malawi.

Our celebration included a Victorian Fayre on Saturday 29th June 11am – 3.00pm. We hope that our anniversarycan bring great joy to our local community and the children of Malawi."

 EDUCATIONAL TASTER DAYS

St George’s holds a series of optional Educational Taster Days once a term. These aim to give your daughter a chance to supplement her learning with some extension work. Pupils on our database and from our local feeder schools are invited by email to come and join us for example to a Science, Art, English or IT day when they are in Years 5, 6 and 7.

These informal days are designed to be fun and to give the girls lots to think about, to make some new friends and to see the teaching in action at St George’s.

These days are normally built around a theme and although are complementary to the curriculum in that they build on the foundations of reading, writing, mathematical concepts or visual representation, they are designed to foster an interest in a subject above that is taught on a day to day basis.

The  next education taster day will be an Art Education Day to be held on Saturday, 17th October 2020. Please note this event is now at capacity. If you would like to register your interest in attending a Taster Day, please contact us here.

Given the current situation we are monitoring what the Government advises and will post here exact times of any tours/open events.

A Senior Open Evening is held in the Autumn term.  There is a presentation from the Principal along with a tour of the school by our older girls with interactive activities throughout the school.  This gives you and your daughter a chance to see and speak to subject teachers and have a taste of the subjects taught.  This year it will be a virtual tour with live Q&As from the Principal.

Open Mornings are held in the Spring and Summer term for the both the Prep and Senior Phase. They start with a short presentation from the Principal and are followed with a tour of the school by our current girls. At the end of the tour, the key staff members will be on hand to answer any queries you have be it on the curriculum or bus routes.

Taster Day is for current Year 5 girls to spend the day in the Senior Phase experiencing school life.  This is hugely popular and has a limited number of places. Priority is given to girls who have registered and paid their registration fee.

Sixth Form Options Evening takes place in the Autumn term and is open to anyone interested in registering for the Sixth Form.  There is a talk from the Director of Sixth Form and a chance to talk to subject teachers about the AS and A Level syllabus for their subject.

We will happily arrange a tour at a time to suit you if you are unable to attend our next open event.

INDIVIDUAL SCHOOL TOURS

Socially- distanced tours of the school with the opportunity to meet with either our Principal or Vice Principal Preparatory Phase or we can use Teams if you would prefer to meet virtually.

So far, I've largely concentrated on the KS2 stages, around the 8-11 age group. I offer the popular subjects of ENGLISH and MATHS, but also offer GEOGRAPHY, HISTORY, FRENCH and even LATIN.

However, some parents have asked me to continue teaching their children beyond KS2, and consequently I’ve ended up doing English, Geography and History up to GCSE level, as the students had Special Needs, and it was felt that it would be better to stick with someone whom they knew and felt comfortable with, rather than finding a new tutor.

I also enjoy helping students prepare for tests such as the 11-Plus, SATs and independent school entrance examinations. It makes a pleasant change from teaching “academic” subjects!
