A'Level Results 2021| Maturity, Enthusiasm and Commitment’ Pay Off at St George’s Ascot as Girls Earn Places at Impressive List of University Destinations

Alongside their peers across the country, the St George’s Upper Sixth girls have endured considerable disruption to their two year course of A Level study due to the Covid-19 pandemic. Amid enduring uncertainty, and extended periods of remote schooling, the girls approached independent study and assessment with maturity, enthusiasm and commitment throughout.

They should be exceptionally proud of their hard work throughout the course of the Sixth Form and the results that they are receiving today. Using internally and externally quality assured evidence from a number of assessments, 90% of A Level grades were awarded at A*-B, with 42% at the highest grade of A*. In addition the cohort completed impressive Extended Project Qualifications with 47% awarded A* and 42% A grades.

As they look ahead to their futures beyond St George’s, amid the widely acknowledged fierce competition this year for university places, we are delighted to celebrate an exceptionally strong year for university entrance at St George’s with 94% of leavers securing a place at their first choice university in a wide range of specialisms reflecting their individual interests and talents.

Places have been secured on degree courses including Psychology, Geography, Medical Sciences, International Relations, Exercise and Sports Science, Fashion Marketing, Fine Art, History, Filmmaking and Marketing and Management, with the most popular destinations for the 2021 leavers being the Russell Group universities of Durham University (21% of leavers), the University Of Exeter (15%), the University of Edinburgh (12%) and the University of Leeds (12%).

Head, Liz Hewer, adds “There is no doubt that this group of students have worked exceptionally hard and have benefitted individually and collectively by the tireless efforts and unwavering support of their teachers, pastoral, boarding and support staff. It was with enormous pride that, as a School community, we were able to celebrate this year group’s

considerable successes, notable personal qualities and years of friendship at St George’s, with the Upper Sixth leavers and their parents in person, in July”.

2021 GCSE Results

Georgians rewarded with consistently impressive GCSE results, having embraced a busy, diverse post-GCSE  ‘Bridging the Gap to Sixth Form’ programme

We are exceptionally proud of our Fifth Year girls and the GCSE results that they have received today, which are consistently impressive across the board, demonstrating strong ‘value added’ despite the adverse circumstances of the past 18 months.

The year group have consistently worked incredibly hard, both during time in school and extended periods of remote learning, and the strong relationships with their committed teacher, where each girl is well known, have no doubt benefitted them at this challenging time.

After their assessment period in May, the year group embarked on a busy and diverse post-GCSE programme including a  ‘Bridging the Gap to Sixth Form’ programme, the introduction to the Extended Project Qualification and foundation lessons in their chosen A Level courses. This was followed by an opportunity to expand their horizons and enjoy time together with experiences and trips in the local area and beyond, the highlight for many being a visit to Regent’s Park open Air theatre to watch Romeo and Juliet.

Head, Liz Hewer, spoke of her pride in the St George’s Fifth Years ”above all the girls have been enormously supportive of each other and excellent role models for the younger year groups. The girls can’t wait to reconnect with their friends across the School, and we are looking forward to them playing a leading role as members of the Sixth Form next term when we are able to come together once more as a whole school community”.

St George’s holds a series of optional Educational Taster Days once a term. These aim to give your daughter a chance to supplement her learning with some extension work. Pupils on our database and from our local feeder schools are invited by email to come and join us for example to a Science, Art, English or IT day when they are in Years 5, 6 and 7.

These informal days are designed to be fun and to give the girls lots to think about, to make some new friends and to see the teaching in action at St George’s.

These days are normally built around a theme and although are complementary to the curriculum in that they build on the foundations of reading, writing, mathematical concepts or visual representation, they are designed to foster an interest in a subject above that is taught on a day to day basis.

St.George's is an independent boarding and day school for girls aged 11-18 years based in Ascot, approximately 40 minutes from Central London and 12 miles from Heathrow Airport.

To be a Georgian is something very special. St George’s is a place where girls flourish academically, creatively, physically and morally, a place where risks can be taken, lessons are learnt, and challenges are welcomed.

We are passionate advocates of girls’ education. Our aim is to foster a life-long love of learning and to give young women the confidence and skills to be the best version of themselves, in order to make a difference in the world.

Open mornings are held bi-annually in October and April of every year.  Open mornings are designed to be a relaxed and informal way to see the school, meet the Headmistress, staff and pupils, tour all areas and see some lessons in action.  In addition you will be able to sample our award winning food!
