The Bracknell Regeneration Partnership (BRP) has appointed acclaimed artist Laurence Payot to create a series of community art events in and around Bracknell, which will culminate in a public exhibition of the works later in the year.
Local residents are invited to become part of this unique art event by taking part in three specially curated, early evening woodland walks with a twist, taking place on 1st, 9th and 20th March 2016.
Laurence will guide walkers through parks or forest, where the woodland will be illuminated by the glow of head torches worn by the walkers. Throughout the tour, everyone will have the opportunity to share their stories of the area, or even folklore and urban myth. The events will be captured through photography and film taken along the way.
The resulting photography and video content will be unveiled in a dedicated exhibition space in Princess Square, and other town centre locations. The images will also be available to view on the Bracknell Regeneration website.
Artist, Laurence Payot, said: “Bracknell is such an exciting place to explore. During my first visit, I was inspired by the co-existence of urban spaces and wild woodlands hosting rare and protected species of plants and animals. The walks are a way to capture the 'spirit' of Bracknell through the eyes of its inhabitants. With the exciting regeneration plans, and beautiful surrounding forest, there’s a real sense of pride and heritage in the area, which I hope to capture on the walks.”
Simon Russian, Development Manager at Legal & General on behalf of the Bracknell Regeneration Partnership, said: “With construction on The Lexicon continuing at such a rapid pace, we thought it was a good time to take stock and celebrate the fabulous town centre surroundings.
“We hope Laurence’s art initiative will be an enjoyable project for the people of Bracknell people across the borough to get involved with, and that the images captured will be a treasured part of the Town Centre in the run up to the opening of The Lexicon.”
Cllr Marc Brunel-Walker, executive member for economic development and regeneration, said: “It is very exciting that Bracknell, and the forest, has inspired this programme of work. We hope local residents get behind Laurence’s walks, and enjoy hearing all the special stories about the area, and sharing some of their own.”
The walks will take place on the 1st March, 9th March and 20th March, exploring Bill Hill, Lily Hill and Caeser’s Camp respectively. The walks will last between one and two hours, starting at 6:30pm.
