Deadline looms to get involved in the £20,000 Bright Idea challenge prize

Residents, businesses, entrepreneurs and inventors living or working in the borough have until midnight on Monday 2nd September to enter for the Bright Idea challenge prize to find an innovative solution to a Royal Borough problem.

The deadline is fast approaching for entries which will be scrutinised by a judging panel led by broadcaster and Bright Idea ambassador Sir Michael Parkinson.

There is a first prize of £800 with two runners-up receiving £400 and £250 respectively. The rest of the £20,000 prize money will be used in part or whole to create and implement the winning ideas.

Sir Michael said: “With time running out to enter the Bright Idea challenge prize and help transform a problem into a solution – what are you waiting for?

“I urge everyone who wants to improve life in the Borough with their own innovative solution to enter now and, who knows, you could see your winning idea implemented and benefitting a lot of local people.”

The Bright Idea, supported by the Maidenhead Advertiser and Windsor Express, is looking for an innovative solution to a problem that will benefit as many members of the community as possible.

Winning solutions should relate to one or more of the following areas:

  • supporting children and young people
  • encouraging healthy people and lifestyles
  • improving the environment, economy and transport
  • working for safer and stronger communities.

Cllr George Bathurst, cabinet member for policy and performance, said: “We are tantalisingly close to the deadline and I urge everyone who wants to share their Bright Idea to get cracking. It’s their chance to use initiative and creativity to help transform life in our community.”

Entering a Bright Idea is simple. The problem and solution should be outlined in no more than 200 words and sent, along with name and contact details, to brightidea@rbwm.gov.uk or to Royal Borough’s Bright Idea, Town Hall, St Ives Road, Maidenhead SL6 1RF.
