Royal Borough welcomes Jubilee street party applications – but hurry!
Diamond Jubilee fever is hotting up with communities throughout the Royal Borough planning a street party on or close to the Big Jubilee Lunch on Sunday 3rd June.

To ease the process the council is doing everything it can to help organisers plan a hassle-free event – and is now calling on anyone still considering a street party to apply before the closing date of Wednesday 9th May.

Already the council has received 39 requests of which 16 are confirmed – 10 in the Maidenhead area, four in the Windsor area and two in the Ascot area. There were 18 street parties for last year’s royal wedding and 42 for the Golden Jubilee in 2002.

Cllr Phill Bicknell, cabinet member for highways, transport and environment, said: “A Jubilee street party is a brilliant way to get together with friends and neighbours and celebrate the Queen’s special anniversary.

“The council is keen to support anyone planning a street party and advise them of the procedure. There’s a lot more to consider than tables, chairs and sandwiches – in particular safety, permission to close a public highway, public liability insurance and signage – but with a little guidance you can look forward to a fun-filled day.

“What’s more, to help residents wishing to join in the Diamond Jubilee celebrations, the council will pay the legal fees and statutory advertising costs involved.”

Copies of an easy-to-read Diamond Jubilee advice leaflet are available from council offices and local libraries or online at www.rbwm.gov.uk/web/td_temporary_road_closures_index.htm

Although the leaflet is aimed primarily at people organising street parties, it covers all events likely to be held on the public highway and will be a useful source of information and contacts for other event organisers in the future. It also contains a reply-paid road closure request form to make the process as easy as possible.
