A new 7.5-tonne weight limit will start on Monday April 4th on Chobham Road in Sunningdale, after a petition spearheaded by Sunningdale Parish Council.   Vehicles weighing more than the 7.5-tonne limit will no longer  be permitted to drive over the Chobham Road Bridge in Sunningdale.

The weight limit aims to reduce danger for road users on the narrow bridge by preventing heavy goods vehicles (HGVs) from using it. The bridge previously had an 18-tonne weight limit in place.

It has been brought in following a petition by and consultation with residents in the area about the safety impact of HGVs.

Cllr Colin Rayner, cabinet member for highways and transport, said: “I am delighted that we have been able to introduce a lower weight limit on the Chobham Road bridge as it will have enormous benefits for both residents and road users.

“We want to make sure all our roads are as safe as possible and this bridge is not suitable for large HGVs to use safely at the current volumes.”

Cllr Christine Bateson, lead member for Ascot and the Sunnings, said: “I am delighted we were able to act on residents’ concerns and make the bridge and the road safer all those who use it.”
