Nominate your street today |The Royal Borough’s Best Kept Street competition is back for another year. Nominations will be accepted from  Monday 7th March for the popular contest and we would love to hear from you.

This is the third time the council has run the event to recognise the hard work and commitment that many residents give to their local neighbourhood.

The awards are an extension of our successful Adopt-a-Street scheme and residents can nominate a street in one of two categories:

Best Kept Street – visually attractive due to the hard work and efforts of local residents looking after their individual properties and gardens.

  • Best Kept Community Street – where local people have come together and volunteered to make a difference through joint efforts such as litter picks, spruce-ups and environmental improvements.

Judging will be based on a range of criteria including the condition of public and private buildings and gardens, absence of litter and dog fouling, condition of grass verges, hedgerows or fencing, and state of footpaths.

Cllr Claire Stretton, principal member for culture and communities said: “This is a really fun and rewarding competition and I think it is fantastic that people take such pride in where they live.

“We had a great turn out last time but I want to encourage even more communities to get involved this year and, who knows, your street could be the best. The winning ones will get a special street sign made up recognising their achievements.”

Last times Best Community Street was Rushington Avenue in Maidenhead and the Best Kept Street was Murray Court in Sunninghill.

Hilary Llewelyn, of Murray Court said: “We love our new street sign and it feels like a badge of honour. This is a great competition to enter and brings residents together to present their street at its very best.”

The closing date for entries is Friday 27th May 2016. After this date ward councillors will visit and judge the nominated streets and make their recommendations to a Big Society Panel sub-group.

Nominations can be made from Monday 7 March at www.rbwm.gov.uk and paper entry forms are available on request.
