Celebrate the Coronation and host a ‘Big Lunch’ in aid of Thames Hospice | By order of the King and Queen Consort, Thames Hospice is calling on its community to host a ‘Coronation Big Lunch’ in aid of the charity so more patients and families can get the vital hospice care and support they need.
The Coronation of The King and The Queen Consort will be a momentous occasion for the United Kingdom, the Realms and the Commonwealth, and a fantastic opportunity to come together to celebrate and reflect on what matters most.
The Big Lunch, a nationwide action of celebration and friendship, will bring millions of people together to boost community spirit, reduce loneliness and support charities and good causes like Thames Hospice.

Claire Redrup, Head of Community and Events at Thames Hospice, says: “We are deeply proud of our long-held association with The Royal Family, from the moment we welcomed our first patients more than 36 years ago.
“We are only able to provide our services free of charge to all those who need us thanks to the generosity of our local community, and we really hope our community will respond by supporting us and hosting a Big Lunch, whilst celebrating the Coronation with neighbours, friends and family, sharing food and fun together.”
To raise funds for Thames Hospice whilst celebrating this historic royal occasion, please contact the Community Team for some fun ideas and a free fundraising pack which includes bunting, balloons, collection box and event poster.

Claire added: “It’s the King and Queen Consort’s wish that people come together to support a good cause. By hosting a Big Lunch in aid of Thames Hospice, you could help our patients make their own coronation memories.”

About Thames Hospice
Proudly serving the community for more than 36 years, we are a leading UK Hospice providing inpatient and community palliative and end-of-life care services to people aged 16 and over across East Berkshire and South Buckinghamshire. Treating everyone with kindness, compassion and providing a safe and caring environment is at the heart of everything we do to support those facing a life-limiting illness.
We are committed to delivering care that is agile and responsive so that we give patients and their families choices about the care they receive, providing the highest quality nursing, medical and therapeutic care within our Hospice and in patients’ homes, supporting the physical, social and psychological needs of our patients and their loved ones. Our highly skilled doctors and nurses work with patients and their families to develop a complete programme of care tailored to their needs, treating everyone with dignity and respect.
We believe in empowering the people we care for and offer a wide range of services to help them feel well for as long as possible. Alongside our inpatient and community nursing services, we provide care to support people’s wellbeing through our ‘Living Well’ service, which includes our day therapies programme, counselling support, complementary therapy, physiotherapy and Lymphoedema services. We also have a 24-hour telephone service available to families as well as healthcare professionals to provide guidance on symptom control, practical advice and emotional support.
Our services are free of charge to all who need us, thanks to the generosity of our amazing community, as well as our incredible volunteers who give their time to support the best possible end-of-life care for local people. It costs £19 million every year to keep our Hospice running and we rely on charitable support to fund our services 365 days a year to the people who need us most.
On 11th October 2021 Thames Hospice was rated as ‘outstanding’ by the Care Quality Commission, following a recent inspection of its state-of-the-art facility by Bray Lake.
