There was a real buzz coming from the Cordes Hall in Sunninghill on Friday 10th February as The Gill Love Band played to a sell out audience in aid of the Crohn’s & Colitis UK charity. Organised and hosted by Dilwyn Jones (aka Jukebox Runner/Mr G Force Ascot) the event was a happy and successful evening, not just raising in excess of £5000, but bringing together family, friends, customers and villagers beating a cold grey winter’s day. It all started when Gill Love discovered that Dilwyn was running the London Marathon on 23rd April 2023 dressed as a Jukebox (made by Paula Davidson) to raise funds for the Crohn’s and Colitis charity. Gill kindly offered the services of her band for free and was constantly on call for advice and support as we put the evening together.

The charity’s representative, Richard Marmot started the evening off with an informative and compelling talk about the effects and impact of a Crohn’s & Colitis diagnosis, not just on the patient,  but on he family as well. Often a young person’s disease, Richard spoke of the the challenges faced and the ways in which the charity offers support both mentally and physically to these sufferers. Research, collaborative high quality care, campaigning for a better understanding of the difficulties faced, early diagnosis and educating people that not every disability is visible are all ways in which the funds raised can help Crohn’s & Colitis sufferers. Advice on medication and diet, and employment and disability benefits are also a means of helping those affected lead as fulfilling a life as possible. Funds are desperately needed to continue their good work.

As Gill and her band entertained us with greats like Mustang Sally and Route 66, party goers made the raffle and silent auction an enormous success. Local businesses and individuals had donated an amazing array of experiences and goods to bid for. Rounds of golf at Sunningdale,   tickets for the polo, Nirvana Spa vouchers, and dinner vouchers for restaurants in our High Street - the generosity and kindness we experienced in helping us to make this event successful have been both touching and at times overwhelming. A special mention must go to Peter Harris and his family who organised the bar donating their time, drinks and all the profits to our cause.
