Royal Borough pupils record strong KS4 results | RBWM Pupils have achieved strong results as the borough performs in the top 15 percent for KS4 according to performance tables released by the Department for Education.
Half of all pupils at mainstream schools managed to achieve a strong pass (grade 5 or above) in the recently reformed English and Maths GCSE, well above the national average of 43 percent.
Almost three-quarters of pupils attained a grade 4 (standard pass) or above compared to 62 percent nationally.
The new grading system cannot be compared directly to previous years but this year’s results show young people in the borough continue to perform highly and attain results on par with, and in many cases well above, the national average.
Currently 86 percent of schools in the borough are ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’.
Cllr Natasha Airey, cabinet member for children’s services, said: “These are some really positive results and show young people in this borough are performing highly and getting a great start to their lives.
“We will continue to work closely with schools, parents and young people to ensure they are supported to build on these successes and we are investing in creating more spaces for children to benefit from a ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’ education in the future.”
Other results confirmed in the Government’s performance tables:
On the Progress 8 measure, the Royal Borough achieved +0.13. This means each Royal Borough student scored on average 1 grade higher in 1-2 subjects than students with similar prior attainment nationally. This puts the Royal Borough at equal 29th for progress.
- On the Attainment 8 measure, the Royal Borough achieved 49.4 compared to the national figure of 46.3. A figure of 50 represents the equivalent of every child achieving a C in 8 subjects and a grade 5 in English and maths (double weighted) and at least 3 English Baccalaureate subjects.
A level results were also good. At Key Stage 5 in the Royal Borough:
- The average point score per A level entry expressed as a grade was C+, the same as the national average.
- A total of 19 percent of A level students, who took at least three A levels including at least two facilitating subjects, achieved AAB or better which is above the all schools national average of 17 percent.
