The annual Sports Presentation Evening was held at Charters School on Monday 26 September in an event that recognised the dedication and sporting achievements of the students during the past year.

250 students were given awards after representing the school or competing at District, County or National Level.

The teams also had an amazing year with 51 teams achieving success at District, County or National level.

The Team of The Year was the Inter Girls Cross Country Team, which achieved Bronze at the National Finals.

Morgan Lake, the British track and field athlete who specialises in multi-event disciplines and the high jump kindly presented prizes at the event and took part in a question and answer session. She was the 2014 World Junior champion in heptathlon and high jump, and the 2015 European Junior champion in high jump. This year she represented Great Britain at the Rio Olympics and spoke openly about the difficulties associated with balancing school life whilst completing at the highest level.

Mrs Hartwell, Curriculum Leader of PE said, “We were so pleased that Morgan could attend our presentation evening. Many of our students compete at the very highest level, whilst maintaining their commitment to academic studies and hearing Morgan talk about her experiences will really inspire our students. Charters has a reputation within the local community for nurturing sporting excellence and this pedigree shows no sign of abating. Our school motto is Unity, Respect, Excellence and the support our students give one another throughout the sporting calendar really embodies this.”

Sports Personality of the Year awards were also given to one male and female student from each year group who show outstanding commitment and dedication to sport at Charters School.
