APRIL 2016

In total 1,842 children (94 percent) have been offered a place at one of their preferred primary schools for this year’s intake. This includes both reception and infant to junior admissions.

Overall there were 1,977 primary school applications from Royal Borough residents for places for children starting schools in September. Parents had up to six preferences overall.

  • A total of 82 percent, 1,612 children, were offered their first preference
  • A total of 7 percent, 135 children, were offered their second preference
  • A total of 3 percent, 60 children, were offered their third preference

Therefore 89 percent were allocated their first or second choice and 92 percent received an offer for their first, second or third choice.

After all offers were sent out on Monday 18th April, 80 primary school places were left unfilled across the Royal Borough.

Cllr Phil Bicknell, cabinet member for education, said: “We know how important school admissions are and try our hardest to meet all parents’ preferred choices as fairly as we can. It is tough when a first choice can not be given and we will provide as much support as we can to families where this is the case.

“I am however very pleased that we can offer 92 percent of applicants a place at either their first, second or third preferred school.”
