ascot tercentenaryWINNING SILKS REVEALED FOR COLTS AND FILLIES CLUB HORSE, ‘SAFARI TEAM’:  In celebration of Ascot’s tercentenary, the racecourse’s Colts and Fillies Club has a horse in training.  ‘Safari Team’ will run for the Club during 2011 and in January a competition was launched for members to design the silks he will race in.  Frances Flannagan, age 9 and from Liss in Hampshire, submitted the winning design and on Thursday 14 April, attended a club trip to Peter Winkworth’s yard to meet the horse and collect a framed miniature version of her colours.

Frances, who is a pupil at Rogate Primary School, based her design on the colours of a zebra and a cheetah to represent Safari Team and added in the colours worn by Scotty, the Colts and Fillies Club mascot.

Jayne McWilliam of The Ascot Colts and Fillies Club said “We were all really impressed with the thought Frances had put into her design and how she represented the joining together of the Colts and Fillies Club and Safari Team.  I hope she will enjoy watching Safari Team race in the colours she designed during 2011.”

Safari Team has been kindly loaned to the Colts and Fillies Club by trainer Peter Winkworth, and will be trained by Peter and Anton Pearson and the team at Robins Farm Racing Stables, a new purpose built racing yard near Guildford. They currently train around 40 horses across both Flat and Jumps.  Safari Team raced four times as a two year old and was placed 4th and 3rd before winning on the all-weather at Lingfield in September 2010. The horse is currently rated 84, which means he certainly has potential... watch this space!
