Long- standing and much-missed familiar South Ascot landmark, Hyns chinese restaurant, in Brockenhurst Road, is in the process of being gutted. Martin McColl Limited, who have shops on several Bracknell shopping parades, have submitted an application to sell alcohol, which  is with the Royal Borough.

Cllr Simon Dudley has tweeted that he is delighted to hear that the ~£15 million Oaks Leisure Centre in Charters Road, Sunningdale, planning application was approved at the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead #Windsor Area Development Management Panel on September 4th.

The application for the proposed new leisure centre, which could be co-located with Charters School and existing leisure centre facilities on the site, could see residents in the south of the borough benefit from an expanded daytime leisure offering, available seven days a week, including:

  • A six-lane, 25m swimming pool, meaning residents who live in the south of the borough would no longer have to travel to access swimming facilities.
  • An additional 60-station gym.
  • An additional dance studio.
  • A sports hall with eight badminton courts.
  • 100 additional car parking spaces.

Permanent Hostile Vehicle Mitigation installation to begin in Windsor

The installation of phase one of Windsor’s permanent Hostile Vehicle Mitigation (HVM) measures will begin week commencing Monday 23 September.

The first two sites, Peascod Street and Sheet Street, will be completed by mid-November, with the remaining four sites to be installed after Christmas.

There will be no disruption to traffic during the Peascod Street works as most of the work will be carried out during 10am - 5pm when the road is already closed to traffic.

Sheet Street, which will see works beginning week commencing Monday 7 October, will require two-way signals as each lane is worked on, but more detailed information will be available closer to the time, and will be posted on the council website.

Cllr Samantha Rayner, lead member for culture, communities and Windsor, said: “It’s great to see these permanent measures installed, with each location’s design being unique and designed with great consideration of each area’s conservation status in mind.

On Tuesday 25th June, Charters School welcomed parents and friends to a photography exhibition which featured images from the school’s annual Photography Competition.

The theme of the competition, which raises funds to support emotional wellbeing at the Sunningdale school, was “My Happy Place,” and students, staff and alumni rose to the challenge and entered an array of high quality images ranging from sunsets and seascapes to animals and woodland glades.

The winning entry, by Year 9 student Mia Austen, was an abstract image of a ladybird walking on the outside of a window at sunset and drew the eye of the judges, Kat Toft from Artis Studios in Sunninghill and parent David Blackman.

Papplewick’s MacMillan coffee morning 2019 was a very different picture from years gone by in the nineties when the whole idea was rather a small affair with parents gathering over a coffee and donating the cost to MacMillan in the process .  Having raised over £2600 over the past 3 years,  on Saturday 7th September the Parents of Papplewick (POP) once again organised the most scrumptious array of cakes to raise money for this most worthy cause.  Both boys and parents contributed their creations (Bake Off – eat your heart out)  – and this year a record £1250 was raised when the bake sale was set up over two sessions –  after the Chapel Service, and again during the football team trials in the afternoon when appetites were at their peak.

Headmaster Tom Bunbury Tom Bunbury said. “ We are proud to be able to help MacMillan Cancer in any way possible for the incredible support they give, and thanks agan to our parents for organising this superb cake sale."

All potholes over 40mm deep will be fixed within 24 working hours as the Royal Borough’s 24 hour pothole pledge launches.

From September 2nd 2019, the Royal Borough will have some of quickest response times for fixing potholes in Berkshire and beyond, with all reported potholes over 40mm deep fixed within 24 working hours regardless of category. This change will also mean our roads are safer by ensuring that potholes on roads regularly used by more vulnerable road users such as cyclists are fixed quicker than ever before.

The new scheme forms part of a series of commitments to improve highways across the Royal Borough and will see all reported potholes over 40mm deep on roads and over 25mm deep on footways fixed within 24 hours regardless of which type of road or path they are located on. Previously, only potholes over 40mm deep on high speed or strategic routes or potholes over 25mm in town centre locations had to be fixed within 24 hours.
