The 2024 RIBI Young Musician competition, will be on Monday, January 29th 2024, at Heathfield School, Ascot. The start time of 6.30pm is a possibility depending upon the number of entries.

There are two competitions, one for Vocalists and one for Instrumentalists, and, there is no age limit except the student has to be under 18 on August 31st, 2023. There is no requirement for vocalists to have specific qualifications but instrumentalists should really be at least Grade 6/7 on their instrument. Guitarists and percussionists may have supporting CD accompaniment but it must not be the lead in the performance.

Each student has a 10 minutes' performance slot which starts after any introductions to their programme. It is best to perform two or three varying pieces of work and perhaps at least one to be of a classical nature.

As usual there should be three judges scoring.

It is not certain yet whether District will run the competition this coming year as they gave us a ‘bye’ at last year’s and the two local winners went on to the S.E.England finals (now referred to as CLUSTER).

Our vocalist won there and went on to the National Finals. The Instrumentalist was placed Runner-up but only the winner was allowed to go on to the National Finals.

Organisers are requesting that participants confirm, as soon as possible, whether or not you wish to enter students this year. The only details needed at this stage are name/s,  sex,  age, and their instrument.

Initially organisers would like a maximum of one student per school, for one or both categories. There may be opportunity for further entries depending on numbers being entered.
