The Lord Lieutenant of Berkshire - Mr. James Puxley- and his Intern from the T.S Iron Duke, presented Shelley and Jerry - founders and owners of Frog Bikes, with the Queen's Award for Enterprise, for their success in exports over the last three years. Champagne corks were popping themselves in the heat, at a short ceremony in their Silwood offices, on Thursday July 26th. Shelley was presented with a glass trophy and a certificate signed by H.M. The Queen, while a Royal declaration was read out - conferring honours and rights on the Frog. The company who have 25 staff in offices at Silwood and 25 manufacturing the bikes in South Wales,  began 'at the kitchen table' just five years ago!

Frog Bikes is a small British company dedicated to making cycling fun for children. They believe that the lighter the bike, the easier it is for children to learn to ride, and to enjoy it more as they progress. Many kids' bikes on the market weigh nearly as much as the child!

The founders, Jerry and Shelley, are a couple who have 2  children of their own – both keen cyclists. So they know something about what motivates children to get on their bikes! Since the first prototype arrived, the bikes have always been robustly tested by the children and all their friends. Frog is proud to be a family run and owned business. In 2017 they won the FSB & Worldpay family business of the year award for the south-east region.

In 2013, Frog set about re-designing kids' bikes, creating a light but strong aluminium frame, and hand-picking components that offer a high performance without compromising the weight. The bikes are now also much easier to pedal due to a unique crank design from the renowned bicycle engineer Dimitris Katsanis (of Team GB Olympic fame).  The new design reduces the Q-factor (the space between the pedals), allowing children to push more directly down when cycling, so converting more of their energy into motion. Only Frog applies this level of rigour to the design of kids' bikes.

The Frog team ise constantly working on developments and improvements to their bikes, in line with ongoing scientific research at Brunel University, so that their bikes continue to lead the market in innovation and comfort for children.
