Charlie Zhou, who attended Papplewick School, Ascot,  from 2002 – 2005, has received an Elsevier Data Analytics Fulbright Award to enable him to study at Harvard University on one of the most well-regarded and impactful scholarship programmes in the world.

As part of the Fulbright Visiting Scholar programme, the Scholar Awards provide the only scholarships available to academics and other professionals for lecturing and/or research in any discipline at any accredited US university. The Awards form part of the US-UK Fulbright Commission’s work to promote leadership, learning and empathy between nations through educational exchange.

Papplewick headmaster Tom Bunbury said: “What a fantastic opportunity for Charlie, both to study under leading public health academics at Harvard University and to participate in a cross-cultural exchange steeped in tradition. We are extremely proud of his progress and wish him every success.”

Charlie Zhou is currently an Academic Foundation Program doctor at the Royal Free London NHS Foundation Trust. He undertook his pre-clinical training at the University of Cambridge before completing his medical degree at the University of Oxford. He is also the recipient of a National Sarcoma Awareness Fellowship.

About Papplewick.... http://www.papplewick.org.uk

Papplewick is a day, weekly, and full boarding preparatory school for around 200 boys between the ages of 6 and 13. Situated in 15 acres of land opposite Ascot Racecourse in Berkshire, Papplewick has an excellent record for academic achievement and feeds many of the UK’s top independent senior schools including Eton, Harrow, Winchester, Wellington, Stowe and Bradfield.

In the last two years the school has maintained its academic record, gaining no less than 26 awards to top independent schools, including three King’s Scholarships to Eton. Through its strong commitment to sports, the school also builds skills of teamwork, sportsmanship and responsibility.

As well as academic, sporting and cultural excellence, Papplewick aims to provide boys with the confidence and security they need to fulfil their potential, and the school strives to promote enthusiasm for life, contribution to the community and kindness to others amongst all its pupils.

A report by the Independent Schools Inspectorate (ISI) in 2013 remarks that relationships between pupils and teachers: ‘are an outstanding strength of the school and are seminal in creating the strong sense of a mutually supportive and trusting community.’
