St George’s School, Ascot performs for HRH Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex | The Chapel Choir of St George’s School, Ascot performed at Ascot Race Day this week for The Prince Philip Trust, a fund which supports good causes across the Royal Borough.
Twenty girls from St George’s School Chapel Choir had the pleasure of performing to HRH Prince Edward, Earl of Wessex during the fundraising event at Ascot Racecourse on Wednesday 2 May. This is the third time the Chapel Choir has been asked to perform at the bi-annual event, and gives the girls the chance to exhibit their best music. The Choir sang grace before lunch, going on to perform pieces by Mendelssohn, Henry Ley, Charles Wood, Richard Rodgers along with The Collect of St George and a motet in celebration of the Queen's recent birthday 'O Lord grant the Queen a long life.
Sixth Form Choir-member Charlotte Coates, described singing at the event as “an incredible opportunity".
Ian Hillier, Director of Music at St George’s School, said of the event: “The girls were delighted to be singing at Ascot Racecourse again and thoroughly enjoyed performing for Prince Edward. The Prince Philip Trust fund does amazingly good work and it is wonderful to be able to support them.”
The Third Charity Race Day was organised by Rotary for The Prince Philip Trust. The Trust supports many causes, including children and young people, social need issues, sport and disability, physical and mental health initiatives, the elderly and the arts, and is dedicated to making a real difference to the quality of life of people from communities across the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead. Since its establishment in 1977, Trustees have given grants to over 600 individuals and organisations and distributed almost £2 million in grant aid.
