Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra opens Lynwood Village

Residents at Lynwood Village, Ascot, had a very special Royal visitor on 18th April. Her Royal Highness Princess Alexandra officially opened the Lynwood Village development, unveiling a plaque to commemorate the occasion. Residents and staff of the award-winning retirement village and community in Berkshire lined the entrance route, waving Union Jack flags.

Princess Alexandra was given a tour of the village and its landscaped gardens before hosting the official opening with Zara Ross, Chief Executive of Ben. After Her Royal Highness’s visit, residents and staff celebrated with afternoon tea.

The Princess spent time meeting both residents and staff on a tour of Lynwood Village, which is owned and operated by Ben. Her Royal Highness is Patron of Ben, an independent charity which provides support for life to the people of the automotive industry and their family dependents. The charity is focused on delivering care and support to enable total health and wellbeing throughout working life and later life at its care centres and retirement village. Ben’s care centres and retirement village are available to people with or without automotive industry connections.

The first part of Lynwood Village, including Cedar Lodge, opened in 2015 and the second part of the development, Mulberry House and Woodland View, opened in the Autumn of 2017. Lynwood Village provides independent living for the over 65s, with excellent onsite facilities and a choice of daily activities, in a friendly, vibrant community. There are 150 homes onsite which are spacious and designed to make life easier for over 65s.

For residents requiring more help and support, flexible care can be provided in their own home, along with a range of services including physiotherapy at the village’s fully equipped Therapy Centre. As part of Ben’s focus on continuing care, Lynwood Care Centre, a 102-bed facility, is on the same site as Lynwood Village and was officially opened by Her Royal Highness in 2015. Lynwood Care Centre provides residential, nursing and dementia care, plus a new service delivering pre-bookable respite and rehabilitation care.

Zara Ross showed Princess Alexandra around Lynwood Village. She said: “It was a great honour to welcome Her Royal Highness back to Lynwood. The Princess spent a great deal of time talking to our residents and staff, making it such a special day for everyone involved.  We are very grateful for Her Royal Highness’s continued support of Ben, she has been a wonderful Patron for over 50 years.”
