In the evening, the Co-Headteachers met  prospective parents and gave a presentation on life at the school.  They were again very pleased by the supportive turnout and the positive feedback that they received.   For further information about admissions to Charters School please visit our website: www.chartersschool.org.uk/admissions

New sexual health clinics for younger people at Ashford and St Peter’s Hosptials

The sexual health team at the Blanche Heriot Unit at Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals has started a new service, online pharmacy specifically for younger people under the age of 18. Consultant in Genitourinary Medicine, Dr Amy Bennett, explains: “I am fairly new to the Trust and one of the first things I wanted to do was set up a service for younger patients. They are often very reluctant to seek help and advice in regards to sexual health – they worry they will get into trouble or be frowned upon. This couldn’t be further from the truth – we are here to help anyone – and apart from in exceptional circumstances, we provide a completely confidential service.”

The new clinics are offered at both hospitals – Ashford in Middlesex and St Peter’s in Chertsey – between 4.30pm and 6pm every Tuesday. Dr Bennett says: “We want to run the clinics at a time that is convenient for younger people – so they can come to us after school or college. If you want to bring someone along for support – a partner, friend or parent perhaps – that is fine. Equally, if you would rather come alone that is also fine. We are not here to judge or to preach and I promise that you will receive a warm and friendly welcome at our clinics.”

Services provided at the clinics include screening for sexually transmitted diseases, pregnancy testing, contraception – including emergency contraception and free condoms. A Health Advisor is also available to offer general support and advice; for example, talking through any concerns about your relationships.

Residents and visitors could benefit from easier access to Sunninghill High Street as there is again talk of expanding a section of the road by 1.2m to allow two lanes to run the whole way down the High Street and reduce delays at peak times, after last year's consultation exercise, failed to secure sufficient support.

The pinch point at the junction of School Road is only currently wide enough for single file traffic. The majority of the existing parking provision will still be retained under the proposed changes.

By reclaiming a small section of the footpath, it could be possible to create enough space for two-way moving traffic, while retaining most of the parking spaces and a route for pedestrians to continue to access the High Street.

The proposals could also include a raised zebra crossing opposite the Novello Theatre.

Ashford and St Peter’s Urology team launch new ‘virtual’ service.  | The urology team at Ashford and St Peter’s hospitals has launched a new way of working, known as virtual clinics. For many patients this will mean a quicker service and also avoiding an unnecessary trip to hospital.

Mr Sachin Agrawal, Urology Consultant and Clinical Lead for the service explains: “Many of our traditional clinic appointments are follow-ups, updating and reassuring patients with test results which are stable or checking everything is OK. This may be for conditions ranging from kidney stones to cancer follow-up. There is no real need for them to make a physical trip to hospital for this, especially if scans are normal – often, a quick phone call or letter after we have reviewed their case will be as effective.”

Royal Borough pupils record strong KS4 results | RBWM Pupils have achieved strong results as the borough performs in the top 15 percent for KS4 according to performance tables released by the Department for Education.

Half of all pupils at mainstream schools managed to achieve a strong pass (grade 5 or above) in the recently reformed English and Maths GCSE, well above the national average of 43 percent.

Almost three-quarters of pupils attained a grade 4 (standard pass) or above compared to 62 percent nationally.

The new grading system cannot be compared directly to previous years but this year’s results show young people in the borough continue to perform highly and attain results on par with, and in many cases well above, the national average.

Currently 86 percent of schools in the borough are ‘good’ or ‘outstanding’.
