Reading Buses Green Line took over Green Line 702 from First Group after they withdrew from the service and  the service is now running. All existing season and period tickets will still be valid and, for now, the timetable will stay broadly the same, although all London bound journeys will run 5 minutes earlier to make sure we don’t run late leaving London.

Reading Buses are  not taking over the previous fleet of buses, so for the next 8-9 months  a mix of suitable vehicles from the existing Reading Buses fleet, will be used, as well as  some temporary vehicles hired in, including a small number of full-specification coaches..These have high back coach-style seats  All vehicles will, of course, be fitted with free WiFi.

Once again Papplewick boys have come up trumps with their scholarship entries for the UK’s top senior independent schools.

Kan Pitichaichan has won Art Scholarships to both Shrewsbury School and Stowe School, while Philip Dorn has snapped up an Art Scholarship to Tonbridge School.

David Liu and Jiho Ro have both been awarded Academic Scholarships to Harrow School, and Jiho also won Harrow’s Deno Leventis award as the best all-round Classicist.

“We’re especially proud of our scholars at Papplewick,” Tom Bunbury, headmaster, said. “It’s no small feat to be awarded a scholarship and they all worked extremely hard.”

On Thursday, February 8th, the Bibliomaniacs Club from Papplewick School, Ascot ,  visited Winchester College’s library.

The head of the library collection, Dr. Foster, showed the boys some manuscripts and incunabula - books printed before 1501 – and an English Book of Hours, a book containing assorted prayers. These books showed off a person's wealth: the flashier, the better. This one was very special indeed, and was only one of only a few Books of Hours containing songs in Britain!

One part of the library included shelves from hundreds of years ago, where the books were chained to the shelves in order to stop people from stealing them.

After visiting the library, the boys were given a short tour of the college and were able to see the college museum and its chapel in all its glory.

On Tuesday, 6th February, Papplewick boys from Years 5 to 8 at Papplewick School  were entertained and enthralled by one-of-a-kind chemist Dr Szydlo. He took the boys on a scientific journey through the chemistry syllabus for both Common Entrance and Scholarship entry, incorporating a historic timeline of the events leading up to the famous discoveries in science.

Headmaster Tom Bunbury said: “Dr Szydlo had the boys fully engaged - his experiments were fantastic. The boys particularly enjoyed the flash and bang experiments and the amazing colour-changing chemical reactions.”

Dr Szydlo’s lifelong passion is chemical experiments. He studied chemical engineering and industrial safety at university, but immediately afterwards returned to his favourite activity - chemical experiments - by becoming a chemistry teacher. Whilst teaching full-time, he enrolled for a PhD researching alchemy and his thesis was later published as a book.

Telefonica have erected a telecommunications mast (pictured above) on the grass verge by the Church Lane/Sunninghill High Street roundabout on the A329. Sadly, the installation work has involved ploughing up the area planted by Charters 6th Formers in the Autumn with  5,000 crocus bulbs, to publicise the Rotary 'End Polio' Campaign.
