Frog Bikes, the makers of lightweight children’s bicycles, has been honoured with a Queen’s Award for Enterprise for International Trade. It is one of 238 organisations nationally to be recognised with a prestigious Queen’s Award for Enterprise. Announced on April 21st, Frog has been recognised for its outstanding achievement in international sales, supplying independent bike shops in over 40 countries worldwide. The family-run company was set up just 5 years ago by cycling parents Jerry and Shelley Lawson, who struggled to find lightweight, well designed bicycles for their two small children. Now with its own factory in Pontypool (South Wales) and offices in Ascot (Berkshire), the firm employs 50 people in UK and supplies families with affordable, lightweight aluminium bicycles all over the world.
“To win a Queen’s Award is absolutely fantastic for a business of our size. We are so proud of what our team has achieved in such a short time, introducing a new brand into a mature market, and it’s exciting to be recognised for our successes” comments Shelley Lawson....

The sun shone on boys, parents and teachers from Papplewick School, Ascot, at their annual charity walk around Windsor Great Park on Sunday, 22nd April.

The purpose of the eight-mile walk was to raise funds for the charity, ‘Railway Children’, with the aim of reaching a target of £13,000 or more. The charity helps children living on the street in the UK, India and East Africa, where they suffer abuse, violence and poverty.

Tom Bunbury, Headmaster of Papplewick, said: “It was the best walking weather I can ever remember in my twenty four years at Papplewick! We all enjoyed the walk, and the picnic afterwards, enormously. I am hugely grateful to everyone who has contributed - we have already succeeded our target, raising a remarkable £15,000 for this very deserving charity!”

Picture shows: Papplewick boys in typical 1940s clothing at the Milestones Museum, Basingstoke.

Papplewick boys arrived at the Milestones Museum in Basingstoke full of anticipation on Tuesday 8th May. Year 2 and Year 3 boys were in for a treat at the ‘living history’ museum, which is home to over 20,000 objects that were either made or used in Hampshire.

The boys marvelled at the 1940s town that had been built in the hangar, and enjoyed visiting all the shops of old; the favourites being the sweet shop, the bicycle shop - full of penny farthings - and the toy shop.

ADVENTURER and classic car enthusiast Liam Cooper is preparing to walk solo 200k from the source of the River Thames to Windsor to raise funds for Samaritans

For eight days from 3rd to 11th May he will camp overnight carrying everything he needs for the trip.

Liam, who is a volunteer at Bracknell, Wokingham and Ascot Samaritans, is leaving his classic car behind and pulling on his walking boots.

The former flight engineer for Concorde said: “I’m doing this as a personal challenge and I want to raise funds for Samaritans.  I think most of us struggle with life sometimes and the curved balls it throws. I know some people have it really tough and I want to help them if I can.”

He is no stranger to big adventures as he has trekked to Everest base camp, climbed Mount Toubkal in the Atlas Mountains, flown a Spitfire and driven a husky dog team.

Charters School in Sunningdale   | The Creative Arts Faculty at Charters School has built quite a reputation over the past few years with their annual stage shows, and as the school looks forward to its Diamond anniversary in April, this year was no exception.

The main hall was transformed into a Cabaret Club for a trip down memory lane, as students performed musical numbers from the school’s back catalogue of shows. Seated at round tables, the audience was treated to an array of classics from shows including West Side Story, We Will Rock You and Summer Holiday. Nearly all of the choreography was created by talented Sixth Form students, while the drama students added to the cabaret vibe by performing original sketches throughout the show.

The run was kicked off by the school’s annual Community Performance, where pensioners from local day centres and care homes were invited to experience the show during the school day along with students from some of the local schools. During the intermission, the audience was served refreshments which were kindly donated by Londis in Sunninghill.
