2024 WHEELBARROW RACE ANNOUNCEMENT -Rotary Club of Ascot Sponsored Wheelbarrow Race in Sunninghill

For at least the last 25 years, the Rotary Club of Ascot has organised the fancy dress Wheelbarrow Race through Sunninghill.  To stage this event takes many months of preparation by a group of people working together arranging such things as road closure, race teams, sponsorship, advertising etc.  Sadly, this year, our club membership is not able to carry out all of these many and varied tasks for this year’s race.  Hence, the Wheelbarrow Race will not be run on Monday 6th May the Bank Holiday.

We are keeping our options open for next year’s race, but it remains a considerable challenge for the membership and we cannot be sure we can run the race again.

PAPPLEWICK CHOIR VISITS ROME AND SINGS MASSES AT ST PETER'S AMONGST OTHER HISTORIC CHURCHES.

Twenty choirboys from Papplewick School, Ascot had the tour of a lifetime to Rome at half-term. Under the direction of Chris Goodwin, Director of Chapel Music, they sang Masses at St Peter’s, Santa Maria Maggiore and the Pantheon and hugely enjoyed the experience of singing in these vast, beautiful churches with impressively resonant acoustics. They had worked hard to prepare their varied repertoire ranging from plainsong, through Baroque and nineteenth-century music, to contemporary sacred anthems. Visits to Rome’s top attractions such as the Colosseum and the Trevi fountain were fitted in and they needed no encouragement tucking in to the local pizza, pasta and gelato. As the boys entered St Peter’s for the first time said, it was “awesome!"
