On November 15 students from Charters School in Sunningdale took park in BIMA Digital Day.

The British Interactive Media Association sent challenge sheets to schools in early November, ready for the students to work on their briefs during the actual day.

Rawnet, a digital media company with offices in London, New York and Ascot, joined students to explain what it is like to work in the “Digital World” and how different elements of their organisation work together to deliver a successful digital campaign.

The students selected briefs from Cancer Research and Tata Communication and using skills including coding, video editing and designing, they wrote advertising slogans and designed logos to create their digital campaigns.

Mrs Jess Duncan, a Media and Film Studies teacher at Charters who led the event said, "All the students worked fantastically throughout the day to come up with projects and campaigns that would use digital technology such as websites, apps and social media pages.  I am so excited about the potential our students have in the Media industry both at A-level and in the lower school".

Boys from Papplewick School in Ascot, with their parents and friends, joined the school’s annual sponsored walk in Windsor Great Park on Sunday, 23rd April, in aid of charity Make a Wish.

Make a Wish grants magical wishes to enrich the lives of children and young people fighting life-threatening conditions. Children the charity has helped have starred in their own films, walked with dinosaurs or met a celebrity hero. All the wishes granted are varied, personal and magical and bring respite from the difficulties of living with a life-threatening condition.

The walkers enjoyed beautiful spring weather. A number of the boys ran part of the course, while many of the walkers took between two and three hours to complete the eight-mile circuit.

Headmaster Tom Bunbury said: “It was a wonderful turn-out of boys, parents, other relations and dogs. The purpose of the walk was to raise funds for Make a Wish, and I am hugely grateful for the generous donations received. We have already raised a remarkable £4.330 including Gift Aid from just 67 donations, and I’m hopeful that we can raise at least £9,000, so that three wishes can be carried out.”

All the participants enjoyed a well-earned picnic at the end.

 St Peter’s Hospitals

A team of nurses, volunteers and some very generous patients have helped raise a staggering £25,000 towards the refurbishment of the Hematology Day Unit at St Peter’s Hospital.

Over a four-week period the nurses held weekly bake sales and sold raffle tickets in a bid to raise a ‘few pounds’ to help redecorate the unit, but following kind and unexpected donations from a number of patients (including a staggering £20,000 from one patient alone), the total raised in a few short weeks has far exceeded all expectations.

900 raffle tickets were sold with many of the prizes donated coming courtesy of the patients treated on the unit, many of whom are currently undergoing intensive chemotherapy.

St Peter’s hematology unit treats issues with blood in health and disease. It includes problems with the red blood cells, white blood cells, platelets, blood vessels, bone marrow, lymph nodes, spleen, and the proteins involved in bleeding and clotting.

On Friday 11th November at 11am Charters School in Sunningdale fell silent to mark Remembrance Day.

Staff and students congregated in their Tutor groups on the astro-turf and as the clock struck the hour, Dexter Brown from Year 12 poignantly played the Last Post. The entire school remained silent for two minutes before Dexter broke the silence by playing the Rouse. A wreath of poppies was then laid by two Sixth Form students. As the students returned to lessons, they passed an art installation of poppies clinging to the trees in the school’s central quad

Mr Chris Cook, Subject Leader for History said, “The idea of remembering those that gave their lives for our today still resonates with students despite the passing of 100 years.  Having just learnt about the impact of the Somme it was fitting that the whole school community came together to mark Remembrance Day as a community.”
