County Cup Football Success for Charters Students

Charters School in Sunningdale has dominated this year’s County Cup Football finals.

The under 13’s, 14’s, 15’s and 16’s boys teams all made it through to the final stage of the Berkshire Schools’ FA Cup and three of them were crowned County Champions.

The U13’s team beat Piggott School 2-1 in their final on 2 May, notching up two, 5–nil wins over their opponents on their journey to the final.

The U14’s team played extremely well all season, and had been undefeated since a loss in their first game of the academic year. They lost 4-1 to a very strong Forest team, the game a lot closer than the score line suggests. They created many chances and were unlucky not to convert them.

The U15’s team won 10-0 and 10-1 in the first two rounds of the cup before beating the Maiden Erlegh side 6-0 in the third round. The boys then beat a very physical Windsor Boys team 5-3 in the semi-final before beating Forest 2-0 in the final.

The U16’s team reached the semi-final last year and they went a step further this year, beating a strong Reading Blue Coat side in a close 2-1 win on 10 May. All the players worked extremely hard and showed an outstanding attitude to get the winner in the last 5 minutes of the match.

Mrs Kirstie Hartwell, Curriculum Leader for PE at Charters said, ‘The fact that four of our teams played in the final of the Berkshire County Cup is a real reflection of each student’s commitment to training and the team spirit they demonstrate week after week. I am very proud of all those involved, including the PE staff who arrange training, drive the minibuses to fixtures and are great role models to the students.’
