Papplewick sends team into the Lion’s Den:  Three Year 7 boys from Papplewick School are competing in a 'Dragons Den' competition for preparatory schools, organised by Monkton Combe School, near Bath.  Three year 7 boys: Ryan Cho, Vedant Dudraj and June-Ho Chung will be attending an inaugural event on 8th March called 'Into the Lions Den.’

The challenge is to design and make a product from recycled materials, which needs to serve a useful purpose around school.  Once the product is made, the boys have to ‘pitch’ it, Dragon’s Den-style, to an esteemed panel of Lions, including Lord MacLaurin of Knebworth (ex-Tesco Chairman and previously Chairman of Vodafone); Andrew Livingston (Commercial and e-Commerce Director of Screwfix); Toby Davies (Old Monktonian and currently Sales Sheriff of Trunki) and Robin Totterman (Founding Partner and Managing Director of Inspecs). The winning team will be awarded a prize of £1500 for their school’s Design and Technology department.

“The boys have come up with a host of ideas but have finally settled on making safety stabilisers for S boards or wave boards, for novices,” says Tom Bunbury, Headmaster of Papplewick School.   At break times at the school, boys can regularly be seen playing on wave boards in the school playground.
