RIBI Young Musician of the Year 2022/23 organised by the Rotary Clubs of Ascot and Wokingham,

Our two local winners - David Shao (Piano -Papplewick School) and Sarah-Jane Butler (Vocal - Luckley House) were both given ‘byes’ at the next District round and forwarded on to the S.E.England Finals. This part of the competition took place in Chelmsford Cathedral in March.

David Shao was placed runner-up in the instrumental section. His programme performance was :- ‘6 Variations in G major’ by Beethoven and ‘Toccata’ by Khatchaturian.

Sarah-Jane Butler WON the vocal section. Her programme was :-‘ Diseaux si tous les ans’ by Motzart; ‘Fair House of Joy’ by Roger Quilter and  ‘Some things are meant to be’ by Jason Howland.

Sarah-Jane Butler has, therefore, been forwarded on to the National Finals in Manchester later this April. Both Ascot and Wokingham Rotary Clubs send their heartiest congratulation to both students and wish Sarah-Jane their very best wishes in the National Final. The National Finals are contested by Ireland (1), Scotland (1), Wales (1) and England (5 regions) each forwarding a Vocalist and an Instrumentalist.
