On Wednesday 24th November,  Charters School in Sunningdale welcomed renowned economist Jonathan Haskel to speak with its A level Economics students. Mr Haskel spoke to the Sixth Form students regarding his work for the Bank of England and the Monetary Policy Committee in a presentation which took place virtually over Teams. He discussed interest rates, (how they are set and the impact they have on inflation), the financial crash and quantitative easing, whilst sharing a number of insightful slides with the class. He then encouraged the students to take part in a lively Q&A session.

A Level Economics teacher, Mr Dhesi, said after the presentation, “It was an excellent presentation, and it was great for the students to see a professional economist and the important work they undertake. Jonathan explained the many factors the Bank of England consider when setting interest rates and the reasons behind the recent rise in inflation. All our students listened very attentively and asked questions at the end showing their interest. Jonathan answered all the questions by referring to examples where he could and the whole session was very interactive. I was delighted with the way the session went and would like to express my thanks to Jonathan for preparing and giving the talk and the Bank of England for organising such a great event.”
