A nurse has been awarded a prestigious Chief Nursing Officer Silver Award at the Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust’s Pride in Nursing and Midwifery Day event which took place on Friday 14th May 2021.
Charlotte Broughton, Head of Patient Experience and Involvement at the Trust, was presented with the award by Ruth May, Chief Nursing Officer for England, who joined the event remotely for her work in her previous role as Matron – Specialist Services and Freedom to Speak Up Guardian.
Charlotte was nominated for the award for her work throughout COVID with the Public Swabbing Service and implementation of All Staff Mask Wearing across the Trust. In addition to this, Charlotte has been recognised for her work in the role of Freedom to Speak Up Guardian where she provided counselling and support for staff, particularly those working in ITU and the COVID positive wards.
Ruth presented the award virtually during her talk at Ashford and St Peter’s Pride in Nursing and Midwifery Day event which featured presentations from guest speakers across the nursing and midwifery industry, including Professor Trixie McAree, National Midwifery Lead for Continuity of Carer and Andrea Sutcliffe, Chief Executive and Registrar, Nursing & Midwifery Council.
Charlotte said: “When I was first told that I would be receiving this award, I was taken aback as I don’t feel that I have done any more than my colleagues during the pandemic; I just came into work every day and did my job. I am highly committed to this Trust and I am fortunate enough to work with my amazing team, and I just feel that I just did my small part. Thank you so much for this award.”
Andrea Lewis, Chief Nurse at Ashford and St Peter’s, said: “A huge congratulations to Charlotte on receiving a Chief Nursing Award. Charlotte has shown true professionalism during the COVID pandemic and has gone the extra mile for her patients and colleagues. She is thoroughly deserving of this recognition and I think every member of the ASPH nursing and midwifery team would support this.”
To ensure the event was delivered safely and in line with national guidance at the time, it was delivered as a blended event, with a small number of colleagues attending in person and others joined remotely to watch the presentations.
