The Mayor and Deputy Mayor for the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead have been elected during a short virtual ceremony at the council’s annual meeting.

Councillor John Story has been re-elected Mayor and will continue in the role until May 2022 with Councillor Gary Muir also continuing as deputy.

Councillor Story was initially elected as Mayor in December after last year’s meeting was postponed due to COVID-19 and he will now complete a full term of office.

He will be supported throughout by his wife, Mrs Barbara Story.

Councillor Story said: “I’m very proud and honoured to have been re-elected and given the opportunity to represent the borough again as Mayor.

“I hope that during my year, as we emerge from lockdown, I will have more chance to spend a greater amount of time around the borough I am proud to call my home promoting the wide range of work done by our charities, businesses and other organisations, as well as meeting my fellow residents.

“I have had a long and close association with the Royal Borough of Windsor & Maidenhead. I’m proud to call myself a resident and I’m very much looking forward to acting as a champion for the borough.

“Supporting our residents, businesses, schools and charities, as well as all frontline staff including those in the council, the NHS and local care homes to help recover from the pandemic remains a priority.”

Councillor Muir will be supported by his partner, Deputy Mayoress, Ms Caron North.

The former Mayor, Councillor Sayonara Luxton, extended her term of office for six months to December last year because of the pandemic.
